![]() | Would you exchange your EMG 707 for DM EVO 7? I found a guy who is willing to exchange his DIMARZIO EVOLUTION 7 for my EMG 707. We both have the same guitars - IBANEZ RG7 421 XL. Tomorrow I'm taking my amp to his place (he lives like a 100 km away, haha, I know I'm ) and I'm gonna try out his axe and see if I like it. I'm just wondering if anybody of YOU guys wouls swap his EMG for an Evo or vice versa? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | While I had my RG7421, I had an Evo in the bridge. The output was just fine; I played essentially thrash nonstop on it, and never failed to have enough output. Donnie has it now, he can probably give his view on the Evo. |

![]() | I'm just going to swap pickups (I know, I will have to get pickup rings to cover up the remaining space round the pup). We might just as well swap guitars but I know the bruises on my axe very well and he knows his so I think we'll stick to what we have in terms of guitars. I don't care THAT much for cleans but I dislike the single coil-like attack of the 707 PLUS it has a very limited frequency range to my ears to - an AWESOME low end and gorgeous sustain, that's true, but not enough mids and sounds too sterile in general. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, since you're just going to swap pickups, I'd look into the pickups rings before jumping into it. Also, you'll have to take out your electronics and swap them those too. It'd be easier if you just traded guitars, but the nicks and bruises do come into play though I guess. |

![]() | Huh, here's a quick update on what happened today. I took my ENGL FIREBALL head to the rehearsal room, plugged it into some dodgy cabinets (2 2x12 cabs) and I tried both guitars one after another. Our axes are indetical and we both tune one step lower than standard. The only difference was the strings - mine are a much heavier gauge than his (I'm using 56 for low D and 70 for the lowest A string whereas his A was something like 58 or 62 at best). Anyways, after playing each pup I've decided to stick to the ENG FOR THE MOMENT. I absolutely loved the crispness of the EVO, it somehow sounded CLOSER (like closer in the mix... I hope you get the idea) then the EMG 707. It lacked a considerable amount of low end compared to the EMG, but I had been prepared for that. HOWEVER, to my surprise, it also lacked the low mids (and I used to think my 707 lacked some mids ). It pretty much sounded like what they say on the DM website - a TREBLE and UPPER mids oriented pickup. Which, for my taste, made it too flat and lacking in the lower frequency range. It was more breathing, I loved the crispness, but If I had gone for it, I would DEFINITELY regret the low end (and maybe some sustain) the 707 provides. I have a feeling that a DS 7 might be the one for me though. What do you guys think? If it's darker and more low-mid oriented it should be perfect! |
