Neal has a spectacular aura about
Question Warmest 7 string bridge pickup

anybody got recommendations for a sweet sounding bridge p.u? i'm looking to smooth out the attack of my ibanez so its not so 'twangy.' i don't really like the dimarzio 7's. probably the alnico vs. ceramic thing.
also has anybody tried a duncan '59 in the bridge of a 7? the only 7 string '59 models i can find say they are just for the neck position. i have a '59 in my les paul and it sounds freakin awesome compared to the ibby. obviously the body woods and the bridge are completely different but if i can get even close...

Mamoulian is on a distinguished road
Try another brand of strings (e.g. GHS Boomers) and picks made from another material (celluloid, for instance). Both measures worked fine for me.
All the best

Why the fuck do you Duncan guys insist in using model numbers instead of names?

A '59 is actually a pretty transparent and articulate pickup - I'm not sure if that's the right answer. Ditto on the Jazz, which is quite clear, despite its name.

Sounds like a Tone Zone 7 might be in order - basically, a ton of midrange and not much else, with good output. I would be hesitant to recommend it for anything BUT a warm, middy tone from a seven, and in fact it's so mid-heavy it blows in mahogany, but in basswood it's tolerable and will probably get you close.

Also, I suspect dropping the 500k pots for 250 would help here, too.

start going around referring to all DiMarzio models by their model numbers too, see if it pisses them off and confuses them.

Then I'd have to LEARN the model numbers.

I could just make 'em up.

DbC, you clearly need a DP702 in the bridge position of your RG.

Haha Drew, I agree it's silly, but there's only a few 7-string models: 59 Jazz JB Custom Distortion & Invader. SH1,2,4,5,8. Why anyone doesn't just say "The JB" I'll never know, so I agree its kind of funny.

Btw the Tone Zone 7 is a dud, unfortunately it's nothing like the TZ 6... it's far from "warm". Might have something to do with the ceramic magnet that the TZ7 has.

Nah, I've played it in basswood, Nick. I don't LIKE it - I found it indistinct and not too clear in the low end, basically mids and nothing else - but if he wants a warm pickup with warm defined as a smooth attack and more of a LP-like tone, then the Tone Zone would be tough to beat. In basswood with moderate gain it sounds vaguely EVH-ish, without some of the cut. Not my thing, but it's the best match that's coming to mind.

I've never even played a six string Tone Zone, to my knowledge, so I can't speak to how they diiffer, save that the general consensus is they do.
