![]() | D Sonic 7 and Blaze Custom Just planning to put one of them on my RG7420's bridge. I am looking for something that provides more mid (but not over the top) and higher output, but I guess both of the DS7 and Blaze Custom may do the same job for me. That's why I am wondering which one I should get. I want some heavy rythm sound just like Petrucci's sound on the album Six Degree of Inner Turbulence. Thanks in advance |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if you're going for Petrucci, go DS7. myself, i have a Blaze Custom, and will be getting another BC for my other 7 string here soon. the BC isn't as tight as the DS7. i guess, it's a bit more vintage sounding? a bit warmer? not sure how to characterize it, but i dig it. if i ever get a mahoganny guitar, i'll probably get a DS7 for it, but for basswood, i think it would be too bright for my tastes... to sharp. ...if that helps at all ![]() btw, howdy! ![]() I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways, we could reverse the particle flow through the gate. We'll cross the streams. |

![]() | Thanks for replying Is that just the probelm of warmer and tighter sound? I've just take a look at some of the old threads and looks like that the DS7 and BC do pretty much the same thing, can anyone tell me more about their difference? ![]() ![]() ![]() Just Rock'n Roll ![]() |

That being said, my experience with basswood Ibanez 7s is that the DiMarzio Evolution 7 pickup sounds incredible. My experience with the DS7 is in mahogany guitars, and I don't know if basswood would yield as good results. The Evo7 (which is very different than the Evo6) sounds KILLER in basswood - but I'm sure all the DiMarzios we've been discussing do too. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The DS7 seems to be a little brighter and alot more harmonic in my basswood guitar. The blaze is just a smidge warmer and not quite so defined. You'll probably love both. My biggest problem now with my latest guitar project is deciding which one I'll put in this next guitar. I really like them both about the same. For me and my ear the Blaze custom reminds of Vai's Tone some alien love secrets, and the DS7 is all Petrucci. However that's through my rig. But that's my take on it. Or as Forest Gump would say "that's all I got to say about that". ~A Come sopra, dunque di sotto. Fare che lei farà, e nuoce nessuno. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The BC and DS7 might look similar on Dimarzio's tone charts, but they sound quite a bit different to me (while both kind of mainatain that 'modern', sorta typical Dimarzio sound.) Everything everyone has said is right on. The DS7 has a bit more of an almost Seymour Duncan kind of organic, chimey quality to it, though. Makes for interesting cleans, and really sounds sparkly when paired with other pickups. It also excels for technical, precise riffing. Sort of like an EMG. It's the uber-clearest non-active high output pickup I've ever heard. Shoot. It's way clearer than most low output pickups, to be honest. The BC can do the same things, but it really sounds more like Vai through a DS-1, I guess. Punchier mids, warmer, less highs. The vids are real 'vocal', almost liek a mildly cockes wah. Great for leads, good for rhythm, but only so-so for cleans, IMO. Both sound pretty good, but they don't sound alot alike (for passive high output bridge pickups, that is). Both have real nice tight, articulate sounds, though. No flub, no mud. I'd say the DS7 is a jack-of-all trades, that also happens to KILL for death metal and technical riffing, whereas the BC is a bit more of a specialized lead player's pickup, while still being failry versatile. http://www.wolf.org |

![]() ![]() | Small question here.. I heard the DS7's have that noise problem, like if ur sitting 2 feet from your computer or anything electronical, it squeels... Is that just when the pickup is selected, or is that all the time?? Also, How are the cleans on the DS7? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you dont have a noisegate (which i dont know why you wouldnt), it can be noisy under those conditions yes. Its only when the pickup is selected of course, and the cleans are fairly bland like most high output bridge pickups IMO. Crazy Bob seems to like its cleans though It doesnt squeal its just a hum thing. I used it with a legendarily noisy TriAxis rig and with a simple noisegate it was silent. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Crazy? ![]() It has terrific cleans for a bridge pickup. Real sparkly, almost like a Seymour Duncan JB. But tighter. It is a noisy sumbitch, though, if you're around electrical shit. A gate is fine to stop it... with distortion. But if you play with it clean, or use it in series with another pickup on a clean setting, you can hear a "BZZZZZZZ" sound in the mix, if you're too near electrical shit. I've gotten pretty much used to it, I have to say. But I'm still looking forward to my NEW, IMROVED, silent DS7 prototype. ![]() Actually, I'm looking forward to the DA7. ![]() |
