Want to natural finish my 1527
ok so i want to strip my 1527 or put a new paintjob on it if its 2 peices of wood blued anywhere but down the middle , the paint on it incl clear coat (there was no fucking primer on this guitar!!) is less than 1mm(bout 0.5mm-0.7mm) thick and it chips left and right so im guessing i wont need very heavy sand paper
ive NEVER painted or stripped a guitar in my life so im absolutely petrified but im sick of it chipping with no more than a brush of your finger so i think im gona opt for this. id like it to be as dark as rusty cooleys custom jackson but dont know what ill need to finish it like that all advice appreciated this is basswood ![]()

My RG1527 hasn't chipped once, even during an extremely drunken gig. I did put a dent in it by accidentally dropping my strap (with Schaller strap locks) on it.
But if you do strip it, paint it white! |

First off, read the tutorial's on stripping and refinishing here. I'd say gic it a go dude, but you might want to buy a really cheap shitty guitar to practice on first.

And it'll probably cost you at least that for a refinish.
And, Ken's right. My vote? Leave it as is, it's an attractive finish anyway and it's a tremendous amount of work unless you have the right tools, which aren't exactly cheap.

Here is another vote for leaving it alone. Basswood is generally and unattractive wood--it is hard to find a big enough piece without voids or green mineral streaks. Ibanez commonly uses body filler to smooth things out for painting. Plus, solid finishes generally come with body halves that are not matched at all. I'd hate to see you strip off all the finish, only to have to paint it again.

I have to say, though, that Leon's natural basswood RG looks pretty awesome.
