Main Seven: Only 6 strings. Need help choosing first 7 string.

plecostoman has a spectacular aura about
Dimebuckers

I'm sure someone has already started a thread on these when they first came out, but I didn't see any.

Are these pickups any good or do they sell for the high price just because of the name? I was thinking about putting them into my Fernandes Monterey.

The reason they're more expensive is because they're in a sort of special "tub" and require different manufacturing than normal pickups.

Other than that...I've only played one once and can't comment on the tone.

I've had one for a bit and just hated it. Fizzy, muddy, inarticulate, just bad period. I never could get a good sound out of it.

I agree. I dont like duncans period! The dimebucker is fuzzy and muddy.
It sounds like the eqing for the pickup is Bass 10 mids 0 treb 3 pres 2.

i liked it until i tried a different pickup and realized how shitty the dimebucker sounded in comparison. it was a huge improvement over the stock pickup in that guitar, but replacing it was an even bigger improvement.

Better off with an L500-XL, this was always a marketing thing, IMO, not a great pickup.

I installed a couple Dimebuckers back in the day, and didn't care for them in any of the varied guitars.

+1. There was a reason Dime still used L-500XL's in his favourite guitars...
7-string one sucks though.

I have one in my Warlock

muddy??? I see how it could be too fizzy for some people, but I have yet to hear a single muddy note out of that guitar.....
actually its tighter than the X2N in my other 6 and also a little tighter than the Custom7 in my Ibanez (also tighter than the Super Distortion 2 that it replaced)

you need to be a bit carefull with the high-end with those things but I always had a very tight, agressive sound with the Dimebucker. it sounds pretty bright but also has strong and heavy low-end that doesnt mud out at all

I can see how it might not fit the taste of some people and thats not a problem because you cant argue about that but I seriously cant imagine how all you guys have been getting muddy sound out of it.....
