![]() | Low A string sitting higher than other strings For some reason the string height of my low A (5th string) is above my low E, and is almost parallel with my low B... I have a Schaller Floyd Rose. I re-adjusted the intonation, moved the saddle from left to right, and removed the string block and cleaned it with a q-tip. Only thing I haven't really done is clip the string and try locking a different section in the bridge. I don't have enough string material on the headstock to do that though. I did have the guitar strug with Daddarios and that string guage was a .036. Now it is strung with DR Tite-Fits, and that string guage is a .034. One of my friends recommended using a shim for the lower strings, but I really would prefer to stray away from that for now. He also recommended checking out the nut. I looked it over but now to an extreme degree. Someone help me out so I can do this and not have to worry about doing this . |

The radius of the bridge should have the: E higher than the B, A higher than the E, and the D higher than the A. Now, this is sometimes hard to tell visually, because the gauges of the strings can make one appear to be higher due to the difference in thickness vs the change in saddle height. I would check the individual string action at the last fret. |

![]() ![]() | There are a few things you should look at: 1.) It is possible that your bridge was assembled incorrectly. The individual saddles vary in height to make the proper radius curve. Remove the saddles and line them up correctly. It may just be that they were installed out of order. 2.) You may have a burr on your saddle causing the string to sit higher then it should be. This could be a flaw in the metal or in the coating proccess. You can either file the burr down or replace the faulty saddle. 3.) A shim kit for floyds is standard operating equipment for anyone setting up floating trems. You should shim the bridge to match the neck radius. If you can't do this, any qualified tech will, as it is part of the setup process for a floyd bridge. Remember, always capo at the first fret when setting up your bridge, that way the nut is completly out of the picture and you are setting up your bridge to your neck radius, and not your nut radius. -W |

![]() | Never knew about capo'ing at the 1st. I'll try that. I was examining the saddles last night, and I was thinking they do look a little off, as far as height goes. Thanks for the advice. |

![]() | Ok. I completely dissasembled the floyd, and checked out the saddles. They were all in their proper places. Seems like the shortest ones have a #2 on them, the medium ones have a #1 and the tallest ones have no number. I restrang with daddarios, and came to the realization that there was no problem, the strings are supposed to be ''arched'' like that.... Sorry for the inconvenience, but all in all, everyones replies helped considerably. |
