18 volt EMG's

One of my friends modded his ibanez equipped with an EMG 60 in the bridge from 9 volts to 18 volts, and he said it really opens em up as well as tightens the sound up.

Anyone else experiment with this/Describe its worthiness?

I took the 2nd 9V out of my 81's V-250 and I think it's tighter with 9v but it's more "open" with 18v.

I think I like 9v better, 18v was great but the "distortedness" was like nothing compared to my Livewire Metal so I had to up it a bit, lol.

I have heard debates both ways..IMO the extra headroom is more usefull In basses moreso than guitars.

I had my KXK 7 wired for 18v with the EMG 707. Made no difference at all.

I had 18v in my old Les Paul, it gave some more headroom but not that much. Might have been becuase I use these batteries....

much more noticable on basses than guitars. when you have a lower signal like that it reacts much much like that of an amp. the lower range pulls much more power thus WAY more sag. (also the reason why bass amps have in general 3 time the wattage of guitar amps) though you could make a good argument for us 7 stringers as we usually play in B or lower
