I can't remember anybody saying they didn't like it...

I think there was a discussion about which way the blade should be, like
towards the bridge or towards the neck, with towards the neck being more (I think)

Some of the early ones were microphonic, but if you get one that is just call DiMarzio and they'll replace it. That and they can be noisy, which can be fixed with a noise gate and/or better shielding of the guitar.

Personally I still love mine, just moved the AN7/DS7 combo into my S7420BP and am loving it.

I take it you got them from Mike?

dig deeper. you'll find more praise than not.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

The only negative comments I've heard about the DS7 is that they are prone to interference and hence can be noisy if you don't have a decent noisegate. I've yet to hear someone have a problem with the tone. That being said, every pickup is going to react differently depending on the makeup of the guitar its, the amps used, strings, everything. There's no guarantee it will be the pickup for you specific setup, but it's IMO an amazing pickup and I think you'll love it.

For whatever reason, since I tore mine apart, the noise is less. And plus, I use a nifty setting on my boost/EQ/gate pedal that gets rid of the rest.

The tone is badass. Best passive pickup bridge tone (at least for mahogany) ever.

EdgeCrusher is a jewel in the rough
Ive been messing around with alot of different amp settings and pickup height adjustments and finally found a sound I like with my DS7. At first I had it too close and it had a very harsh, "shinky sound", and with it too low I wasnt getting enough harmonics. I have it at a nice medium now and the sound is very clear and precise while not too harsh. Its kinda like a blaze mixed with an EMG. In comparison with my JB7 in my other 7621, here are my thoughts:

JB7-
Rounder, slightly fuller sound
Looser, more open bass, nice smooth highs
Clear, but not as tight sound

DS7-
Tighter, more focused sound
Lots of mids and treble with tight bass
Super clarity, a bit EMG like

Ive found I like a bit less mids dialed in with the DS7 than my JB7. With the DS7 I can scoop out alot of mids and still have a good tight sound, while with the JB7 if I scoop out too much mids I lose the punchy sound I like. After A/B'ing the two guitars back and forth, Ive set my amp to a happy medium where both guitars sound good with the same settings. I dont know if Ive found my perfect sound, but I like both pickups alot. Id still like to try out an Evo7 and X2N7, but I dont want to get rid of my JB7 or DS7. Maybe I should buy two more 7621s and have them all! I like that idea

what i like about my D sonic (in my 2027)

Super clear and clean. The most clear rythem sound i have ever had. This is great, the bad thing is if you make a mistake it wont hide beind a wall of distortion.

I would say it is a pick up for advanced to pro players.

The bad - none yet.
