![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | They're superior in design to the standard knife-edge trem, in my opinion. The strings meet the bridge at the fulcrum, so there's little torque on the bridge due to the strings, which means you need a tremsetter (which is part of the ZR design) to keep the trem level. This means you can do double stops in tune. It also means the ZR is a bit stiffer than an Edge, but it's the price you pay for the other features. You can still bend up and down with the bridge, though. The only thing keeping me from getting a ZR-equipped S-series is the fact that they're 22 fret only. If they put the ZR on a 24-fretter I'd be all over it. Here's Rich Harris's review of the ZR: http://www.ibanezrules.com/namm/2003/trems.htm#ZR |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A double-stop bend is when you bend let's say, the 14th fret on the G string upwards in pitch from an A to a B, while holding on the 12th fret of the B string. This is a problem with pretty much all floating trems because the pitch of the held B note on the B string will actually decrease in pitch to compensate & even out the tension between the bent string & the springs in the back. I'm pretty obsessed with trem design, and I think this is the best Floyd-based design I've ever tried. It has a back-stop (trem-setter-like device) built in, but it is not necessary to use it and you can disengage it very easily if you prefer a fully floating feel. Another fantastic feature is the thumb-wheel in the back which lets you adjust the spring tension without removing the back plate or using any tools. It also has an intonation adjustment tool built in. I'm definitely not a knife-edge fan so to me the ball-bearing mount is a big improvement, and the unit has a very easy feel which you can adjust to your preference. It sure would be nice to see a 7-string version! | |
