another thing you can do with the razor blade is make it a scraper, so it only scrapes going one direction, take a screwdriver or something round, and drag it down one side of the razor at an angle, like so, in a single striking motion, either pulling the razor towards you or pushing the screwdriver away from you, just gotta do it once or twice, and it'll curl the edge of the blade over and make a scraper out of the opposite side

also, if you are going to mix up lamp black with super glue and retarder, do it in a plastic cup, as glass will react with the superglue and paper of course will just absorb it...

Great job. I've got a big (1/4" diameter circle) divot on my '87 Soloist that I'm going to try this on.

Would epoxy work, or would it react with the paint? It seems that epoxy would have a longer cure time, making it easier to work with.

i wouldn't use epoxy, superglue is so much nicer because it wicks, and it is definately easy to work with, is your 87 soloist lacquer or poly or do you know? one way to find out is if you have access to acetone, take a small dab of it on a rag and inside your trem cavity in the back just dab it and see if it reacts, that way its in an inconspicuous place... the cure time is really only if its lacquer, i did this kind of a repair on a polyester paint job and it didn't need cure time longer than the super glue to harden...

I have no clue what kind of paint it is, but I'm sure Mike knows. It really is a sweet looking pearl clear coat, though. It is a Kahler, so no trem cavity, but I should be able to find room in the control cavity.

Also, it really is more of a paint depression than a divot. It happened when a drummer (who I canned) chucked a drum stick at it "as a joke". Is this the method to use on depressions, or is there a better way?

This may be how I repair the dent in my UV from my Dad "helping" me get the trem springs back on. He insisted I was doing it wrong attaching the spring at the claw first and tried it the other way (before I could protest) and fired the spring across the room. Left a chip in the cavity and a dent in the body.
