^ hmm... i suppose that's a standard 3-way switch? i'll have to check that one out later...

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

excellent. i've seen that JP switch before, and it's expensive. if i can do the same thing with a 3-way blade switch that is cheaper (and is what i'm after anyways), then i'll do it

Yup, I paid $25.00 for the one I got from Allparts.com

I think I prefer the tele styled switch now, much more inexpensive to get ahold of, & much simpler to work with.

I prefer the ones like in the diagram I posted, the vintage type that are open. They're tougher & seem to last longer, & they're easier to clean, just loosen up any dust that might accumulate in their & spray a can of compressed air to get rid of it, done.

i also prefer those old style tele/strat switches, they rule.

If you're talking about the Tele switch, then yeah, Allparts is ok, Dimarzio is better, & I think they're even cheaper at Stewmac.

If you're talking about the 12 pole switch, I would recommend getting the Dimarzio. Here's my reason why.

The Dimarzio is what is used in the diagram I've posted several times before.

I purchased one from All Parts, & wired it up exactly as the Ibanez Schematic that I pulled off of their site. It totally didn't work, I ended up taking it to a tech, & I've been wiring up guitars with far more complicated schemes than this for over 20 years.

ok... so, i've got that 3-way switch, and two push/pull pots, and i think i've come up with a fun wiring scheme...

the neck pickup will be wired to the vol push/pull for: series pushed, parallel pulled.
the bridge pickup will be wired to the tone push/pull for: series pushed, parallel pulled.
with the two hot leads from the push/pulls, i'll wire the 3-way up standard.

this will give me these options:
  • bridge series
  • bridge parallel
  • neck series
  • neck parallel
  • bridge+neck series
  • bridge+neck parallel
  • bridge series + neck parallel
  • bridge parallel + neck series
i think that might be cool

or... hmm.... looking at Tony's picture, i could wire the bridge red&green to one of the push/pull's in an on/off config. or, since the push/pull is two sided, wire both that and the neck's black and white for the same. hmm... i'm not sure how that'd work though. maybe i shall abandon that thought

by the way, this page is helping me tremendously:

i just got back from a few stores around town, looking for some coaxial connection wire, to reduce noise. i couldn't find any, nor could i find any copper tape. so, i'm going to try and sheild my RG7621's cavity with....

...aluminum foil

this should be interesting. if it adversly affects the sound, it should be easy enough to remove. time to start the experiment!

ok, it's all done, and i decided to not go with foil. i'll wait until i can find some proper copper tape. but anyways...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

i finished the guitar up last night, and only tested it to see that it worked for sure on a little 15w practice amp. today at band practice... man... that shit blew me away!

i think all those poor solder joints that i had in there before were seriously hampering my sound. i thought this guitar was dark, but as it turns out, it was just a shitty wiring job . my skills have increased, and now my tone is vibrant, bright, and sharp! ...and not only that, all my switching works just the way i wanted it.

John, this neck-in-parallel thing sounds amazing! and Bob, i'm quite surprised that i do, in fact, really like both pickups together in parallel .
