Buying a new trem

Hey all,

I've got a custom made seven string that I bought used off of a guy in England, who in turn got it off a guy called Simon Wei, who originally made the thing, who I think used to work for Ibanez, but I'm not sure, because the guitar, while looking like an Ibanez, has a body made completely out of Northern Ash, which is not an Ibanez wood by far.

Anyways, the point is, it has a Licensed Floyd 7. And if I dip it down, then when I let go, it will stay about a half step below where it originally was unless I yank it back up. I've tried replacing the springs, changing their tension, etc. etc., but I think I just need a new tremolo.

Any suggestions as to what kind I should get? I'm not looking for something that can stand the abuse that Herman Li gives his whammy, but just vibrato, flutters, and the occasional Satriani-esque pinched harmonic dive. And, yes, it needs to stay in tune.

So if anyone can suggest a specific trem model (like, the advantages of Original Floyds over Licensed ones, or the differences in the Ibanez edge/lopro series, which I never quite understood), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch!

Sounds like it may be catching on the studs. Take the trem off and check the studs to see if there's any rough spots it may be catching on. At least that's what I would do before investing in another trem, although if it's licensed, you may want to get an OFR anyways if you like those, or buy a lo pro from Rich at Ibanezrules.com.
