Installing DS7 and AN7 in RG7620...

has anybody had any troubles with this? i notice that the DS7 is a bit taller than the stock pickup...maybe i should just leave the foam off it and tighten it to the bottom of the rout?

also, because of where the 4-conductor cable comes out of the AN7, it doesn't want to sit evenly in the hole....suggestions?

I had the same problem with the AN7 in my RG7420. To fix the issue of the cable interfering and making the pickup height uneven, I had to take a round file and make the pathway for the cable deeper.

I use no foam on my DS7 in my RG. It would be too tall. Without the foam, it sits perfect (although you may have the same problem of even-ness, like John).

Filing the hole works. You can also coax the wire to flatten a bit, since most of its girth is just the rubber/plastic sheathing.

thanks for the suggestions guys, i'll give them a shot.

on a related note, i'm planning on using the bar side of the DS7 toward the bridge, and the screw-side of the AN7 toward the neck, and i want to be able to do the JPM-style switching (inner coils only in the middle position) i had with my stock pickups, so which color leads are with which coil?

i don't know all the wire colors off the top of my head, but the red wire comes from the coil that has the 4-conductor cable exiting the pickup underneath it.

you should also make sure the magnet polarities are opposite in your inner and outer coils, or the JPM middle position will not hum cancel.

i got them in and working......the DS7 feels a lot punchier than the stock pickup did, and i like how smooth the AN7 is......great cleans too. i do seem to have some of that humming noise that The Dark Wolf complained about, but only time will tell how much that bothers me.

pics and clips later, whenever i have the chance to do a little recording.
