I like to use lemon oil perhaps once a year, twice a year, for a deep penetration.

Wow. That sounded odd.

But any rate, lemon oil wil really add a sheen to the board, and it's great for a thorough oiling. But I use the Eric's oil when I chnage strings, as it's not quite as deep (less of it, for one), but it's a bit more even and consistent. Keeps it fresh.

I have observed ZERO harm to the frets. But it's a nice idea to polish your frets with steel wool once or twice a year, anyway.

Ok, just saw this, and I call bullshit on this subject. Based on what evidence or references? Just his word? As Elysian said, millions of guitarists, techs and luthiers have used lemon oil for decades without incident, including myself for over 25yrs, and I've never seen any detriment to the frets whatsoever. In our shop we use Dunlop 65 with good results, and NO ONE has ever complained of such. In fact, this is the first I've even heard of such an occurance.

I used to get into similar animated debates on herpetological forums about similarly, broad, generalized, speculations concerning venomous snakes without any scientific study, support or even published references to support the claim. When you simply speculate in this manner in the scientific community, you will be called on it everytime. I know this isn't any type of scientific forum, but this principle is much the same. These people making these statements obviously have little or no actual knowledge on metallurgy, alloy composition or even the simple process of oxidization.
There's never any shame in admitting ignorance, it's the ones like this that get stamped with the label of 'know it all'. And didn't out parent teach us that no one likes a know-it-all?
Remember: if you come out with something that sounds far-fetched like that, be prepared to back it up with PROVEN FACTS - not self-propping bullshit.

/rant off

Please be kind to snakes. They can't help it.

I use the Dunlop stuff all the time. If Eric's stuff works as well, I'll be picking that up when I replenish...

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.
