![]() | New pickup for blackjack C7 I just recently bought a Schecter C-7 blackjack. I like the Axe a lot, it plays well. the only thing that I am not happy with is the bridge pickup. The Duncan JB7 doesn't sound the same as the 6 string version I have in my LTD H-1000. the 7 string version was this annoying mid range that I hate. My 6 string is tuned to B and has the same gage as the 7. I want my blackjack to sound like the H-1000, nice and smooth and well balanced,no harsh mid range. Can anyone suggest a pickup to achieve this, I like the amount of gain the pickup has ,not its eq curve. Thanks |

I thought the same thing you did, but then I put a Duncan Custom in my friends Schecter C7 Blackjack I just sold. It was way more middy and muddy than the JB. It was horrible. The SH-5 is a horrible match for that guitar. It was the same thru the TriAxis, Dual Rec, ENGL, Krank, same super muddy and ultra middy tone. Not recommended at all.Honestly, there isnt any good duncans that work well in mahogany IMO. The Sh-6 would, but i dont like that pickup. Theyre all pretty much suited for alder IMO. I would go with a DiMarzio, the DS7 or PAF7. Those are the DiMarzios made for mahogany guitars. The Evo or Blaze might work too but I wouldn't recommend it. PS: Remember, the C7 BJ has a maple neck and a mahogany body. Thats a very middy combination as is (so is the rosewood). With the SH-5 its just overkill. We didnt like the JB in there either (hence the change), but the Custom is even worse. Honestly, if you get the D Sonic I'd almost be willing to bet everything I own you'd love it. These Duncan heads need to try that pickup out sometime ![]() | |

![]() | Thanks guys for all the responses. I don't care what brand it is as long as it sounds better in this guitar than the JB. If you could tell me why a particular pickup would sound better that would be awesome. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The JB 6er rocks so hard in mahogany. I've played a bunch of mahogany guitars (Schecter, Brian Moore, Les Pauls) with the 6-string JB, and it's one of my favorite pickups ever. But the 7-string version in mahogany? Eh. It is love/hate, there. I'd say think about a Dimarzio Blaze, or even better, the D Sonic 7. That pickup works EXCEPTIONALLY well in mahogany. You get the best of all worlds, since it is so even and clear. Plus, it has this delicious 'growl' to it, that is so unique sounding. Brutal, and very, very heavy. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the guy who owns the superstrat 7 i built with the dual x2n7's in it recently sent me a clip, and i don't give a shit what you think about the vamp, this clip sounds brutal as hell... wish there was more to it, but i think it does the x2n7 much justice. http://www.elysian-online.com/sept5soundtest.mp3 and the ss7 was a mahogony bodied maple neck through with tune-o-matic string through body and a half inch maple carved top, ebony board. |
