![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There was an 81-7 in my Soloist 7 when I bought. It was a very harsh, cold, sterile sounding pickup. There was absolutely nothing about it that I liked. I'm not a big fan of EMG to begin with, but the 81-7 (and 81) are definately the worst. I'd stick with what you have and throw a tube screamer in front of the amp, unless you are willing to do some dremel work and put a passive pickup in the guitar. I rather deal with the 707's extra bass response, than the abrasive 81-7. ![]() | I've got an 81-7 in the bridge of my 7621, and I think it sounds good. But that's just my opinion. |

I've come to the conclusion that I prefer passive pickups, because they sound so much more organic. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Passive pups definitely sound different but by far the harshest pickup I've used is the H4, it just sound like crap and hurts my ears to tell the truth. I will say that Charvels sound great with JBs, I could go for a bit more bass but I don't really like them in mahogany where the bottom goes out hahaha. My 81 really isn't harsh at all, it might be with mesas but it sounds great with other amps. This is specifically my V I'm talking about though, the all-maple M1000 aren't harsh either imo, they're just really bright...you might want to roll the mids down a bit with an 81. |

![]() | if you owned 81-7 & 707, where is best place to put each one? neck & bridge, also... any BareNuckle or Warpig pick up's that fit 7-strings out there? maybe silly Q, but i'm not that upto scratch with pickup's, thinking of updating mine over X-Mas with EMG's maybe... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well the 707 was designed for Dino from FF so he uses it as a bridge pickup as do most people, some people wanted an 81 so we got the 81-7 which people also use as a bridge pickup. They sound different but both work well in both positions. |
