Universe Makeover

Okay, so i'm giving my UV a makeover...

I'm taking out the pickguard, pickups and electronics and having a new 'face' put on . I'm getting a smoked mirror pickguard again (it's soooo purdy) but having it routed for one EMG pickup, a vol knob and an EMG afterburner (where the tone pot would be).

BUT, it's going in a basswood bodied guitar...so do i want the 81-7 or the 707? I love the 81 in my Viper 400, but it's mahogany and the lowest i tune it is C. I don't want it to be too shrill, so i'm leaning towards the 707 (guitar will stay in standard B tuning)...any comments or ideas??

Eric

I've considered one of those 'Afterburners' before (mainly 'cause it's called an 'Afterburner!!!!!!!')but i've never really heard anyone have anything good to say about them.

I've heard a few people say that they just amplified the un-wanted stuff (noise and such).

I would really think that you'd be better off with the straight EMG. They really have all the gain and power you'll need.

I still wouldn't mind one just so when people asked "What's that knob do then?",i could reply "Oh....yeah, that's just my AFTERBURNER!!!!!! ".

Wow. I kinda liked the guitar the way it is but I think the smoked mirror pickguard will look awesome on that.

I know, i love the guitar the way it is. Nothing is wrong with it at all tone wise or playability wise.

BUT, it has a similar config as the Carvin and i don't want/need two guitars that do the same thing. I figure down the road if i don't like the One EMG in the bridge thing i can always change it back. The smoked mirror pickguard that's on it now freaking rules. It's the baddest pickguard i've ever seen in person...that's why i'm sticking with it when i get the EMG routed one

yeah, i won't have the extra 45 bucks right away to put it in anyways. I'll have it set up with a vol and a tone knob...down the road i might get an afterburner for shits (but with the EMG i might use the tone knob quite often to fatten it up on the cleans or smooth out a solo)

I think the 707 is the wise choice here. Had it been mahogany, i'd have done the 81-7 but a pickguard mounted Basswood body seems to lean towards a 707.

Thanks for your help guys

Eric
