How is that pickup? is it any better then the two i have mentioned?
The DiMarzio Super Distortion is awesome. It' has a great chunk, a good amount of mids but not too much, pretty good bass. It's a fairly balanced sounding pickup, but with a nod towards the middy/growly sound. It's pretty awesome. I recorded my old death metal album with that pickup, it sounds great. The closest thing in a 7-string would be the Blaze Custom, but with more bite.

The Super Distortion is really good for any kind of rock or metal. I had it in a Schecter baritone, and it sounded good for everything. It's fairly balanced, so you can dial in your amp to shape any sound you want. It's not that bright, nor is it bassy. Chords sound really thick and loaded with pleasant overtones, single notes just kick you in the balls and steal your wallet, and lead playing is warm yet articulate enough to be heard. It's one of my favorite DiMarzio 6-string pickups. I was skeptical of it because a lot of the classic recordings with it weren't my cup of tea tone-wise, but I'm fairly sure Randy Rhoads used it in his Ozzy days, as well as old Slayer.

Yeah, I have clips of my old DM/Grindcore band, but as JPMDan can attest, I really had no idea what I was doing back then in terms of recording (I'm still learning). It was 3-4 years ago. I suppose it could give you a rough idea though.

Alots of thanks for the reply! sounds like a buck for the wallet ... is it like the Duncan Custom?

Ok for you to pick which pickup would you choose for the list for thrash metal .. like Exodus, Slayer, Testament well basically thrash .. my guitar is a Ibanez RG321 6 string:

1. Dimarzio Super Distortion
2. Dimarzio Steve's Special
3. Dimarzio D Sonic
4. Duncan Custom

Thanks!

I am still skeptic on the Super Distortion for Thrash as like you said alot bands say Ozzy Rand Rhoad used it for really less gainy applications and also Adrian Smith form Iron Maiden uses it for his stuff and Iron maiden is not really that heavy distorted and not really alot of downtuning.

What would you be tuning to? I think any of those options are nice. I don't know why you're skeptical about the Super Distortion. Who cares what Randy or Iron Maiden uses. That's the problem with pickups, so many people think a pickup will sound a way because of who endorses them, just not really accurate most of the time. I used the SD tuned to AEADGB and it was crushing.

I'd go with the Super Distortion or Duncan Custom probably.

I really would go for the DiMarzio Super Distortion man, I think you'd be happy with it. If not DiMarzio has a 30 day exchange policy.
