A .056" didn't fit through the post hole? Weak!
![]() How wide is the post whole? Does it look like there is enough material to drill it out? |

with my sperzel tuners(yeah, not schaller) i couldn't fit my 60 guage low string, so what i did was clip the string to where it would have just gone through the hole, then unwound it right up to where the hole opened up. did the trick quite nicely

That post can be drilled out, not a problem.

A .060 will fit through, no problem. Schaller locking tuners are like virigins: it's hard to get it in the first time. Try a string that has some unwound "lead" to it, and then slowly pull it through.
I think the locking mechanism doesn't fully seat itself until you string up the first time.

^ Unlike Spertzels, the lock mechanism cannot be dropped out of the bottom of the tuner by removing the thumb screw. The locking post is also spring loaded. I'm not quite sure how to safely drill it without damagin the locking mechanism.

I would just unwind the outermost winding of the string so it fits. That's what I did with the .070", and it still grabbed just fine. BUT the .070" was double wound so there was still an inside winding to grab, I'm not sure if a .056" is only one wind over a plain. Might be a bit trickier if that's the case, but hey, plain strings still manage to stay.
