Sustainiac 6-string Driver on a 7-string?

I would like some opinions/guidance on this from you guys please. It's a bit of an odd one but bear with me,lol.

I've got a Sustainiac sustainer on one of my 6-strings and i absolutely love it but (as you know) they no longer make a 7-string Sustainiac.
This is a bit of a problem for me as these days i rarely pick up a 6-string and i miss my Sustainiac desperately so i'm wondering whether to mount a 6-string driver under the top (low E to high E) strings on a 7 ?????

I realize i could get a Fernandes humbucker sized Sustainer from one of those Fernandes 7-strings but i personally prefer the sound of the Sustainiac and more importantly i don't want to sacrifice my neck pickup.
If i use the Sustainiac Stealth (single-coil sized) driver i'd move my neck pickup towards the bridge to make space for it which i realize would change the neck-pickups sound slightly but not that much. There are a few 7's around that are made with the neck-pickup nearer to the bridge-pickup anyway (the ESP SC's and such) so i don't think it would be a real problem.

With my Sustainiac equipped 6-string i generally use the sustainer effect when playing on the higher strings anyway so i don't think i'd really miss not being able to sustain my low B.

Does this sound like a stupid-ass idea or do you think it's do-able?

Thanks!

I don't think you'll be able to get a big enough magnetic field to cover the outside strings (low B and high E), but it is worth a try.

It is worth a try and if it works it'll be one hell of a pic story! On second thought....either way it'll make one hell of a pic story!

I was thinking of mounting it just under the top 6 strings Noodles.

Anyway,I just checked my e-mails since posting that question and i had one from Alan Hoover (the Sustainiac guy!).Coincidence or what?
He told me that if i hang-on for a month or two they're going to make some of the 7-string Sustainiacs again!!!!!!!!! Happy,Happy,Joy,JOY.

Apparently they've had a lot of enquiries about 7-string sustainers lately so they're going to supply the demand.

That's music to my fuckin' ears!!!

No shit?

Are they going to be for regular sale or for OEM use only? I really don't feel like buying another half-assed Fernandez just to have a cool sustainer.

No, they're gonna' be made by Sustainiac as a piece of hardware available separately, nothing to do with Fernandes.

There's nothing definite yet but it's looking very promising!
