Putting an OFR7 in an Edge/LoPro 7 route
Ok, we all saw the RG8157 with an OFR7 in it the other day that absolutely did NOT fit, so I figured it wasn't possible until I glanced at my RG1527 and UV7PWH next to each other on the Wall O' Guitars the other night, and realized that the guitar in question had a route that was way too tight to be anything other than a Edge Pro 7 route - it certainly wasn't the oldschool UV trem route, at least.
So, considering that the Edge 7 is basically a slightly reworked OFR7 in design (and it follows that the trem is just about as "long" with the added locking screws sticking out behind), and that the oldschool UV's trem route can clearly hold both an Edge 7 and a LoPro Edge 7, I'm guessing that you can put an OFR7 into an Edge7 route. That said, 1.) Has anyone actually tried this? Or, if not, does anyone have an OFR7 and Edge7 handy so they could measure the trem length, from the trem stud to the back of a properly intonated saddle? 2.) Furthermore, if anyone's tried this, can you intonate the trem correctly? I.e- do the saddles fall at the same point relative to the studs on the Edge/LoPro design as they do on the OFR? I'm kind of toying with the idea of grabbing an OFR7 to replace the aging LoPro7 that's in my UV now, as it's both cheaper (?!?!) and arguably a better trem (though I'll miss the pop-in bar). Thanks! EDIT -some measurements of the trem/cavity. The point where the string "breaks" over the saddle falls maybe 1/2" back from the center of the trem stud. And, from the center of the stud to the back of the cavity is a distancy of 3 3/8." How does this compare to an OFR7>

I don't have an Edge handy, but the distance between the front of the baseplate and the back of the lock bolts is roughly 3" on my OFR-7. Keep in mind that this is not installed, so the saddles are anchored to the middle set of saddle holes. Moving the saddles back will increase this distance.
![]() You will probably find these templates and instructions at Floyd Rose's site useful. You won't miss the pop in bar once you experience how wonderful the OFR bar is. It has absolutely no play at all, no matter how loose you adjust it.

Cool.
Updating with pictures: Here's the one I was referring to, from a guitar released after the decommissioning of the Edge7, and possibly after that of the LoPro7: Tough to see cause it's black, but here's the route on a UV body designed from the ground up for a LoPro7: http://www.jemsite.com/jem/photos/uv/777bk_b.jpg Notice the fact the back of the trem is almost exactly flush with the body. Here's what mine's like: http://www.jemsite.com/jem/photos/uv/7pwh_b.jpg As you can see, there's maybe another half inch of space... Not a HUGE amount, but my hunch is it should be enough, especially if that first picture is the second, tighter trem route... Thanks for the measurements, Dave - I'll check it out tonight and see if it should work. |

Ugh, jemsite doesn't allow direct linking. It does look like it has a lot more room, though. If it doesn't fit, it isn't like an OFR-7 will be ahrd to flip. I say go for it.

Do you have an OFR7 laying around? I'll take it if this doesn't work out for you

Yes I do, and it is for a future KxK. Damn things are so hard to find right now that I feel like I am playing a game of web scavenger hunt. I'm stuck on unlogo'ed JB and Galactic Cowboy's first album at this point.
