yup. bet you didnt know that ebony has to be dyed as well. just like with every wood, ebony has grain streaks too, so most of the time, when you think "ebony" your thinkin of an already dyed fingerboard....

Dude. I had no clue. That's a really interesting fact. The wood that gets dyed is still what causes the dark tone of the sound though right?

no no no, lol. IIRC, ebony is more dense than rosewood, equating a brighter tone. so if youre wanting a darker tone, leave the rosewood and just dye it

edit: and the dye doesnt change your tone, only aesthetics

Ebony is almost a cross between maple and rosewood. It's bright in comparison to rosewood.

Oh ok. Hmmm...but my Agile seems to sound darker than my Hellraiser prototype. Both are mahogany body. The Agile has an ebony board and the Hellraiser has a rosewood.

There's many factors involved. Body weight/size, density of particular wood (not just species), neck wood, pickups, strings, hardware, you name it.

But all things otherwise being equal, ebony is brighter than rosewood (because it's a harder, denser wood).

Aaahhh ok. I'm aiming for a nice dark sound with the SRC. Sounds like I'm definitely on the right track. Mahogany and rosewood.

that is odd, considering the interceptor also has a maple neck... and is neck thru which tends to be a little brighter than set neck construction.

but yeah, TDW isn't lying. ebony is a considerably brighter wood than rosewood. i don't know if i agree with the ebony being a cross between rosewood and maple though, as ebony is actually brighter than maple.

Interesting...I was a little surprised that my Agile sounds darker than my Schecter as well. I'm pretty confused by it to be honest.

Hmm. I haven't found that to be the case.

It has a ... brighter midrange? But nothing beats the initial crisp attack of maple, IMO.

Course, it depends on the guitar construction etc., yada yada.

Apples and oranges, unless you can A/B same exact shit, which I never have.
