Unfortunately, no...
![]() You're not the only on to want a seven-string Steinberger though; all the Cynic/Holdsworth/Garsed/White Lion fans on here have clamoured for one in the past as well. Durero's been working on a similar design of his own for a while now though... |

I'm not sure that would be possible, as the design of the trans-trem's pretty 'unique' IIRC, and I'm not sure it would fit in a standard trem cavity without some serious routing.

a 7 string trans trem will never be made, apparently the physics of the trem would have to be done from scratch.
Accord to Ned, the way the trem works is that he can't even start with the 6 string trem as a template. I've read this somewhere but cant remember where. I'll try and find. |

epic.
i never cared for the transtrems, but they sure were cool. i wouldnt buy one, but maybe, if it was a 7, i just might. too bad they dont exist, it would be a nice addition to the current availabilities

How good are the newer trans-trems compared to the originals, as I've heard mixed things about the newer Steinys?

This is wierd, but I've found you can get some similar effects using a slide. My old guitar teacher thought Bill Frisell used a lot of slide guitar until he realised it was actually a trans-trem-equipped Klein he was using. If you tune DADGAE you can get some really interesting Torn-type noises...

A 7-string trans-trem has been a dream of mine for the past 10 years or so. I've prototyped a few attempts without satisfactory results yet but the designs are vastly improving. Of course when I've actually got something worth showing this will be the first place to know.
DR I've owned & played both old & new Trans-Trems and I can't see, feel, or hear any difference at all. |

I've just been rummaging on Steinberger World . Apparently they once made a prototype of a transtrem guitar when the unit was operated by pushing and pulling on the neck rather than a bar (kinda like the B-benders country guitarists use), so you could use both hands to pick or tap while lowering or raising the overall pitch. Sounds like it would have been fun. Reeves Gabrels apparently had one, although I don't know if he recorded anything with it.
