Pick up height with a 707

the neck pickup on my new Loomis sig is almost too thick sounding
to the point of borderline muddy. With EMG 707's, which way will make
them sound clearer and sharper? Raise them or lower them?
I don't know which way to adjust these (I never use active p/u's)
thanks

Can I be the devil on your shoulder?

its the same with passive.
higher = more clarity and power but less sustain
i dont knwo why you are getting mud though, 707s are not muddy.
emgs have small magnets, you can set them abnormally close to the strings and nada string pull

Reverse Headstocks or Bust

for sharper and clearer, lower them (18v modded in my case, fizzy, dull and lifeless at 9v)... wait, second thought, remove them and put passives in . god i hate 707s

707 aren't muddy, wire them in 18V maybe that helps, but I think it's something with your setup, not the EMG

not my set up , my other guitar neck pickups sound
great, (especially the coldsweat in my carvin)
when I got his guitar the neck pickup was set way down into the body so I brought it up
closer to the strings. They may have had it set right to begin with.
I'll try lowering it tonight and see what effect it has.

The neck 707 I have in my Loomis sounds pretty good. I haven't messed with the height at all.

How low is it compared to the bridge pickup?
