I'd definately wait at least until you get a chance to hear the Blackout's since they're supposed to be the same, only quieter. But I guess we'll see.
Yeah, it wouldn't be any harder than a normal non-EMG PU change, right? Just have to cut off the QuickConnect plug...

My new guitarist, Adam, has the 81-7 and he wants to get the 60-7 later on.

7StringofAblicK-This is my footswitch. it changes channels on my amp - just like on a television, but I only have four channels.

From what frank has said, you will only have to unplug the emg, and plug the blacky in. It should be a retrofit to the emg "quik connect" plugs

And since emg has trademarked the "quik connect", seymour duncan should call theirs the "quick connecttor"

Loose wording FTW!!

heh heh heh. And I thought I heard that the blackouts were coming in both EMG size and regular PU retrofit size, right? Then I can still put them in if I do go with the DC727...........ohhhh

Okay, so I think I'm favoring a DC727 at this point in time. But what's the deal with their PU size? What's required to put aftermarket PU's in there? (DiMarzio, or even EMG)

For Dimarzios you can shave away some of their PCB baseplate. If it's a brass baseplate you can try to dremel that as well, or do some kind of tin snip surgery to it. Same goes for Duncan 7's. But the "right" way to do it is to route or dremel their pickup cavity a little larger so most any "passive sized" 7-string pickup will fit. The EMG is a big rectangle bass pickup size, so the Dremel isn't really enough to do it. You should use a router if you're going to the 707 size.

I called Carvin a few days ago and they said they'd email me their route dimensions, but nothing yet. It would be nice if I could make up a template or something.

If you custom order a guitar from carvin, can you give them the dimensions for the pickup routes?

I'm pretty sure that's a no. There's a lot of stuff they won't do. If they don't offer any headstock options for the 7 strings, I'm pretty sure they don't let you tell them how big to make the routes. That'd be nice though.

No, by "we" I meant my co-conspirator and I - our band. We both have our EMG equipped guitars wired for 18v.
