Neodymium magnets for pickups
i just got a mail back from the guy over at Neophysix, Erno, who makes the Q-Tuners that people have been rambling about here :P
i asked him about selling replacement neodymium magnets for pickups, so everyone could have one, but he said that because of the fragility of a neodymium magnet, he wouldn´t be comfortable shipping it. i wonder though, if one could make a deal with him to send a pickup over to him, and have him put the magnet in, and ship the pickup with the new magnet installed, and the old magnet in the box of course... now, i have found a norwegian company that sell neodymium magnets on order, so i could get one from my own specs... i think... so i´m in need of some help here... Ceramic magnets don´t have any varying strength, right? they´re just ceramic magnets, and have ceramic magnet strength? because if i´m getting a neodymium magnet, remember, those are powerfull as HELL, and i would have to get the magnet manufactured thinner to keep it at the same overall power... so my quesion is: if the ceramic magnet i have already is 4 mm. thick, how thick would the neodymium one have to be in order to be the same strength?

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but if you get "the magnet manufactured thinner to keep it at the same overall power..." aren't you defeating the purpose?

Kind of, but remember, these magnets are much more powerful than ceramics and Alnicos, so something too powerful won't sound good. Also, the Neodymium magnets have a different sound character, so wanting a magnet with about the same output with a different sound makes perfect sense to me.

it´s not defeating the purpose, as hambungler said, neodymium magnets have a very nice sound to them... which is what i´m looking for... which is why i want to keep the output level the same
