Recommend a drum machine
hi guys, i'v been using the drum patterns on my boss micro br recorder and its pretty good. Unfourtunatly it will only do metronome patterns in odd time signatures
, so i can program in a bunch of killer drum patterns in 4/4 then and 1 or 2 points during the song i could only use the metronome for the odd times which sucks! anyway, i have a live drummer but quite honostly i find the drum beat for the song with the machine and he plays something very similar to it, so i still need a drum machine. i'v been seeing the drumkit from hell stuff, i guess its a computer program, it looked pretty good, what are your thoughts? got anything else you could reccomend? |

If your computer can support it, a Sequencer like Fruity Loop or ACID + good samples could do an namazing job!

If you're recording on a standalone recorder (like I do) or doing live work, then computer drum software won't do you much good. Get a Boss DR-880--the best drum machine out there currently. I have one, and the overall sounds and programmability are the best I've had, and my experience goes all the way back to the Roland TR-505 in the 1980s.

the computer was an option because of my little studio set up, but i dont have a super powerfull computer so i would definatly prefer a stand alone unit. I had actually looked at on of those recently, i didnt actually get to try it out, but i definatly will. It does odd times well?

If you have a good sound card I'd suggest EzDrummer with the Drumkit From Hell EZX module. I use it and it's certainly the best vuirtual drummer I've ever heard.
A friend of mine who's a drummer use it for recording with a midi drumkit, you really can't tell the difference between this and a real recording I swear! Here's a crap recording of mine done with it. Don't mind the crap playing ![]() Bloody Murder #5 Current rig : Bodenhamer Bloody Murder -> Carvin Quad-X Amp preamp -> TC Electronics G-Major -> the t.amp E400 -> Framus 212CS with Celestion G12 Century's |

Oh yeah.
That was the pisser about the DR-770, that it would only do base-4 time sigs, (2/4, 3/4, 4/4/, 5/4, etc.). But the 880 allows you to do base-8, 12, and 16 time sigs also. I never figured out why Roland/Boss dumbed down the earlier DR drum machines that way, considering that the old Roland R-series machines would do all kinds of odd sigs with far less processing power. |

Well, you could always use guitar pro, and it'll do any signature, and you can write the riff down and see how all the different rhythms sound, then export the midi to DKFH or whatever and get real drumsounds. Once i get my computer working right and a DI box, thats my plan.
