Just ordered new pickups for my Carvin!

So I went to GC yesterday to order new pickups and possibly a Roadster, and they had to special order them for me, which isnt a big deal because DiMarzio is only an hour or so away from me in Staten Island. Anyway, I ordered the D-Sonic7/Air Norton7 combo for my Carvin DC727C, both Black/Cream coils. I need your opinioins as to which direction I should have the D-Sonic installed in. I have Active/Passive Electronics in my Carvin so I'll be able to switch the pickups back and forth between Active and Passive(Good or bad thing?) and I also have coil tap switches for both pickups so I'm thinking it might be hard to turn the pickup around due to wiring. I'm gonna have it installed by a luthier because I dont know what I'm doing with electronics, so how I should I have him wire it so that I'll be able to just turn the pickup around if I dont like the direction its in?
And getting to my main question....what direction should I have it installed in? I'm leaning towards having the solid bar towards the neck because overall its a pretty bright sounding guitar. The bodies Alder, top is Quilted Maple, neck is Maple/Koa, board is Ebony and I'm looking for a very Prog Petrucci/Vai tone once I get my new amp(Roadster). I've seen most people with the DS's bar facing the bridge but thats probably because most of the guitars were either mahogony or basswood bodies, which are a lot darker sounding than Alder. Thanks a lot, ....ps....pics are in the sig if you care.

I have that combo in my DC747. I have the bar facing the neck.

The issue you're going to have is that the pickup baseplates need to be ground down and redrilled in order to fit. . . I'm not sure if that is something luthiers usually do. (I did it myself on a bench grinder).

Also, next time, get your pickups from mikes-music-shop.com

Well yea I've known that for a while, but I'm sure the luthier will do it....otherwise hes not installing the pickups Lol. NO ONE is routing my guitar....no way in hell. What are the specs for your DC747? And what kind of music do you play with it? Thanks for the advice

My 747c is a maple/walnut 5 piece neck with mahogany body wings and a flamed maple top. Ebony no inlay fretboard and SS frets.

Currently I'm playing in an instrumental rock/metal band (it's guitarcore!) and I'm also playing in a goth/metal project.

It's a great axe.

Yea man I agree. Pickups could use some work though....hense the DiMarzios. What kind of amp are you using? I currently have a Marshall AVT20, which is on its way out....so I'm in the process of getting a Mesa/Boogie Roadster head with a Carvin MTS 4x12 with 2 Vintage30's and 2 G12T-75's.

My main gigging amp is a H&K Triamp MkII.

I also have a Bogner XTC which is my favorite amp that I use on most of my personal projects.

I also have a 3 channel mesa dual recto that I use in the goth/metal project.

For cabs I usually use a VHT fatbottom with P50's but I have an Avatar 2x12 with a v30 and a G12T75 in it that sounds great. I recorded our last CD with my old marshall 4x12 with G-65s, but it breaks up too early to gig with.

You can check out the instrumental stuff at www.myspace.com/lonero

Let me know how those pickups sound, my next carvin is definatly going to be alder. The body wings are so small (especially with that thick maple top) that all mahogany does is add weight. The next one will definatly be a fixed bridge as well, I have too many floating trems ;(
