Fret question
i am just wondering if anyone could tell me what "leveling the frets" means and what "crowning the frets" means.
here's my problem on my 1989 Charvel Model 3, i am having not fret buzz but something else. when ever i play a note on the 3rd fret high e string. it makes this low volume note that has a weird king of ring to it. if you play the 2nd and 4th frets they sound perftly normal. but the 3rd fret has a pretty big volume drop and a weird "cling, cling" to it. if anyone could tell me what this is, it would be much appreciated. write back. thanks. nick

Crowning means to make the fret round like a C instead of flattened like a D. Strings will wear down nickel frets flat. So crowning them restores the circle or "crown" to the fret so less fret touches the string (therefore it touches at a finer point).
Leveling is making sure all the frets are at the same height. ![]() Metal... Nuff Said!! NEXT SHOW: None Scheduled Website: www.justdefymetal.com MySpace: myspace.com/justdefymetal |

Depends on who you go to and what exactly gets done.
I'd personally get a PLEK job, but that's me. Before, you ask, "What is a PLEK job," go here:www.plek.com It costs about $150+ depending on who you get it from. |

I'd take the guitar to him and see what he thinks.

ok also, i found exactly were the problem is.
on the 2nd fret bar itslef there is a small dent/groove in it right wear the high-e string lays over it. there is also a dent starting to form in the 3rd fret bar itself. but i dont think that is the problem fret. i think it is the 2nd fret bar that is the problem. |
