Broken stud won't budge

K so I'm setting up my new 7620 tonight, and was lowering the action. I lowered it too far and i tried to raise the stud but it wouldn't budge and I gave it too much torque and broke the stud (I didnt have it locked down either). The thing is though is that somehow it's stuck in there damn good and i can't get it to budge. Anybody know how to get this thing to budge? It won't twist out by hand.

Will Vice grips even fit in such a small area? I dunno if those will even get it to budge, i mean it is in there GOOD...I didn't like torque it down to all fucking hell either, it's odd.

That's what I used to get a broken stud out of a PGM100 once.

Just move it a little at a time till it loosens, IMO.

Jeez... you didn't even have it for 1 day before you decided to break it.

That is kind of odd. They seemed fine when I had it. Although, I don't think I moved them much more than 1/2 a turn up. But yeah, some vice grips should do the trick. A smaller pair and don't clamp them down uber hard. Just enough to get a decent grip.

If it's jammed maybe a tiny drop of pentrating oil will help? I'd suggest wiping as much of it out as possible with a cotton bud after though. If it won't shift still, maybe try filling a slot in it and using a screwdriver. If all else fails you'll have to drill it out.

First off, under normal circumstances, and only if absolutely necessary, the words Vice-grips and guitar repairs should never be uttered in the same sentence.

Brutal things.

Are you absolutely sure the lock set screws are not down all the way? If you torque down on the stud while the lock screws are protruding out the bottom of the stud screw inside, this will compress the threads inside the set screw channel (which is how they're supposed to work, only in reverse), and might effectively jam the stud down there. I would totally remove the set screws altogether, just to be sure.
If you can completely remove the lock screws, and the stud is still jammed down there, I suspect that you might have gotten an anchor that was not tapped down the full length, and the stud threads have run out of anchor channel thread - and now the bottomed-out stud threads are binding on the lowest, un-threaded section of the anchor shaft. Much the same as being cross-threaded, which really sucks to undo.
If you absolutely have to use V-grips to get a handle on it, try working some WD40 down into it first.

Or maybe the threads are just fucked up.

In which case you're left with three options: you can attempt to drill out the stud, and replace it with a new stud (which always includes the possibility of screwing-up the anchor threads as well, ruining both). Or bite the bullet and pull out the entire anchor/stud out of the body, and buy new ones. Third- have a tech do all this for you.

Oh well, good luck with that.

Got it guys, the vice grips I had were kinda big so I had to pull the entire stud/anchor assembly out of the body, but then i was able to clamp down and torque it. Looks like some rust had gotton down there. Thanks a million.

BTW...anybody know if places like Guitar Center or guitar shops carry studs in stock and sell them, or do i have to get them online from someplace like IbanezRules?
