Inlay.. Is it to hard to do yourself

I have an RG 7620 I have posted for sale but I have been thinking about ending the listing as I have the bug to customize it. How hard is it to do the inlay on the fretboard or even change the color of the dots? Thanks..Chris

If you just wanna change the dots, it's easy. If you wanna do something elaborate, you betta bring da skillz.

How much to have it done. Ok I know it depends on what you have done but lets say you want to put colored angular blocks pyramids etc... Not anything way out there, just enough to add color...

SILENT FACTOR is just really niceSILENT FACTOR is just really nice
If you have a Dremel tool and you are ok using it I would say its pretty easy. You just trace out your block, pyramid etc. and use a dremel to cut it out and a chisel to tighten it up. It is however, easiest to do this with the frets removed.

I think this is a gross oversimplification of what it takes to do a quality inlay job. I wouldn't recommend anybody take a Dremel to their fretboard without a good amount of inlay experience. Not to mention that you have to know how to properly de-fret the board to do the inlay job the right way, and re-fret the neck once you're done. It's not a simple DIY job.

you don't need to remove the frets to do inlay work, unless the inlay actually goes up to the fret... and a dremel is all we used at school, and my inlay work came out pretty damn good, but we used jewelers bits to route out the channel, so we could get them pretty close... just a stewmac dremel base and a dremel and some jewelers bits is all it takes to do inlay... if you tape off the frets you are working around, and use a sanding block, you can get the radius in the inlay material without messing up the frets or the fretboard...

I don't know of too many people who would agree with that, but whatever.

if it works, do it, who cares who agrees? people used to think superglue shouldn't be used on guitars, but now its one of the most common things used, kind of a jack of all trades thing, anything from gluing in inlay, gluing in frets, to repairing a chipped or scratched finish. the industry will never advance if people don't try new or different things.

There's no way in hell I'd hand my guitar to anyone who said "I'll refret it using my handheld dremel".
