For 7k it won't save you as much money as you should
![]() 1k tops... IF they're in perfect shape. But DAMN it puts a hybrid to shame... EDIT: According to 1992 Geo Metro Specs and Features - MSN Autos The LSi convertable won't get 50mpg. But the little hatchbacks will. AHHH MOTHERLAND! All hail soviet Arktanistan-Groffistan! |

That thing is begging for a leaf blower turbo.

I'll keep spending money on something that won't fold up like an aluminum can in a 5mph accident, thanks.

^i always thought that! When people asked me what my dream car was I'd always say ".... that man, gas is too expensive" or "i'd prefer a motorbike tbh".
Only downside would be breathing. >.> In a polluted city like Hong Kong, you'd choke to death on the car fumes.

How do you figure? Those are the EPA numbers, old inflated-style. I get a *real world* number of 48 in my Prius, and I know Darren beats me in his Smart by 2-3 mpg regularly.

On the Geo I agree with you. However, small cars are not inherently unsafe, as the recent Smart crash tests prove.

I love America, 50mpg over here is pretty modest figures
![]() My car runs on 50 mpg, most small cars here do, and then anything running on Diesel gets that and more. |

It's not our fault, dude - there's not much for sale in our country that does that well because Detroit has decided that's not what we want. Actually, so has Japan and Korea, come to think of it... Myself, I consider myself lucky my Camry gets 29mpg on the highway. :/

I'd rather be in a 3 star SUV than a 5 star Smart.
I'll give the smart credit, the roll cage is RIGID, but the shorter crumple zone makes it impact harder. I wouldn't want to be in ANY car accident, but I certainly would be safer in something bigger. AHHH MOTHERLAND! All hail soviet Arktanistan-Groffistan! |

C&D's numbers for the ForTwo weren't as high as I expected, actually. I don't recall what they were offhand, but I'll recheck them tonight.

Will the cabin hold up better in a Smart than a Lincoln Continental, in front end collision? Probably not, but at least you'll have a similar chance of surviving either. Yeah, they have issues in the US market they don't have in Europe and Canada, especially with the diesel version, which is the one that really crushes - but, of course, diesel is currently a buck-a-gallon more here...

I drive a semi-gay car, an Acura RSX which gets decent gas mileage and I'm still feeling the pain at the pump. Connecticut is brutal!

Issues being things like smog, safety, and EPA emission limits.
