What is this communist talk? The institute of Bill O'Riley has conclusive evidence that "free healthcare" (death panel care, more like it) leads to more gay people, lower sperm-count, nosy kids, old gramma getting euthanized, and herpes.

Not really, things that are not coverred universally are eyeglasses, orthopedics, dental, chiropracty, physio, massage and drugs. You only get doctor consultations / hospital use under our universal health care.

Most good employers offer benefits for the others. For example I had 4 good fillings done the other day at no charge to myself, due to my benefits.

That's cool. With the exception of dentistry and drugs in the states those aren't necessarily covered either. So the good companies pay the rest for you or is there some sort of insurance in place?

Look at value per capita to understand.

Not hard to be "averaged wealthier" when you have 330,000,000 LESS people in your country.

People see what they want to see.

Value of the country is net by its gross domestic product, not by its "home values".

Canada's GDP ... 1.7 trillion. Not bad, not bad.

USA's GDP ... 15.09 trillion.... now theres some food for thought.

compare all numbers before making assumptions about the country.

Insurance, that part varies company to company. In my particular work place I don't even pay anything for it, employer covers all costs. That is not necessarily the norm, usually you have to pay something in union dues to the like.

Even better would be to use a per capita figure, and in 2011 Canada averaged a couple thousand higher than the US.

Even to break yours down: US - 15.09 tril /313,995,000 = 48058 GDP per capita (your population estimate is a bit off)
Canada - 48761 GDP per capita (pop = 34863700)

What I think is funny is people who make millions paying like 15%-20% while middle class pay like 35%. There are countries with great programs at the middle classes tax level the only problem is the wealthy don't pay nearly as much thanks to loopholes. That and you know war and corporate america bailouts.

I used to really want to visit Canada someday, but the more I read what Canadians online have to say about America and Americans, the less welcome I think I'd feel there. Yeah, I know it's just as silly to make assumptions about how all Canadians feel based on the sampling of Canadians I see online as it is for others to make assumptions about all Americans based on what they see online or in the media, but I'm having an embarrassingly hard time shaking the bias I've developed.
