Beginner trying to learn piano, need some song reccomendations.
Title pretty much says it all. I'm looking for some songs to learn because I can't quit trying to learn Ben Folds Five songs. Being a beginner, most of these are too difficult at this point
. I don't want to learn the same old songs everyone learns (Jingle Bells etc). I'm pretty much open to anything, and some challenge is welcome, just no ridiculous stuff. If you go the classical route, I'd prefer darker sounding stuff similar to Moonlight Sonata (my knowledge of classical music is non-existent). Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd probably start off with vocal melodies, definitely a great way to learn.
They're usually predictable and if you know them can follow easy, when reading music you don't have to worry about chords. And then once you're alright with that move onto stuff with chords. [Fiction] 1:47 pm: she could probably toss a salad with that thing |

If you're willing to put some serious time and effort on it, there are a couple of beginner-to-intermediate books I can recommend you:
Czerny's "100 Simple Excercises, op. 139", "160 Short Excercises, op. 821" and "First Instructor, op. 599". The names mgiht be a little off, I'm translating from German. I had 599 when I was studying piano as a kid. Bach's "Little Book for Anna Magdalena Bach", again, very liberal translation. Had that one too, it has a lot (if not all) of compositional forms, such as March, Minuet, Sonata, Rondo, Prelude, Fuge and so on. I'm assuming you can read notation. If you can't, get to that first, one might get away with never learning notation while playing guitar, bass or drums, but on the piano I'd consider it a must. Best of luck. "The Entertainer" is a good one. It can be played with either a simple melody or with chords and works on both hands.

And yes the sheet music has been released (transcribed) for it. Above bar 10 it says to play it "Brutally" |

I'm not trying to troll you, but this song if played without the accompanying chords in the main melody, is a set of octaves, M7ths, and other simple intervals. But then this song is the bomb diggity as well, learn this song and you get all da bitchez

Best of luck man, I wish I kept on playing piano. It was the first instrument I tried to learn, I was around 9, but I sucked bad
![]() And I never noticed that ridiculous low note in A Thousand Miles at around 3:05 until now, totally sweet. Schecters don't have baseball bat necks. Get the .... over it. Probably easy to learn (the basics at least) and you can be all knowledgeable and stuff. |

This, minus the insane part.
I never learned to read sheet music. I just look at the fingering on guitar pro. "Yeah, sometimes when you're cool, you spontaneously combust into a fireball of awesomeness" - RenegadeDave |

First song I learned on piano. Pretty good for exercises involving melodies and chords. Took me about a month of practice to get it down ok. |
