He is right though. My dad teaches UFC and other martial art sparring stuff. You NEVER use your fist for those reasons.

As for blocking your elbow is great. If you are able to put some of your hip (just for extra power) and they throw a punch... if it hits your elbow (one of the hardest bones in your body) they can shatter their fist. The face isn't the first thing I would aim for either. There's a series of moves ( I'll try and find a video) where you hook your hand at the back of their neck. Main reason is once it's hooked you can do what you want with them. You move your hand in any direction their body will follow sine it's such a strong pressure point.

I thought this was the video I was thinking of. This is especially for people who haven't done anything to harden the bones in their hands. After beating a punching bag so much, you get a lot of microscopic breaks, and it becomes stronger where it heals. It's like developing calluses, but it's on your bones and it takes a lot longer to do.

I don't agree with you, if you know what you're doing using fists is perfectly fine. But even if it's just 2 guys with no fighting knowledge it's still fine, neither of them will know how to block properly anyway. If I was in a fight in the street I wouldn't block at all, just use feints, much less risky.

Or just give the guy your wallet, that's all they want in the first place. How would you get into a street fight in the first place unless it was someone trying to rob you? "Your money or your life!" "OK, here, take my money!" That's what I would do. Then report that shit stolen, cancel your credit cards ASAP, and take a mental picture of that guy's face for the police's sake. The same thing doesn't have to happen to me that happened to Batman's parents.
