Scary Moments (Near death expierence content)

So I just had a massive car wreck in my semi-new civic coming back from Tennessee about 2 hours ago. Truck driver blew a tire and slung it into my car causing me to slam a gaurd rail on a bridge over the Tennessee River. Then we hit another semi head on his drivers side. Few feet back, and we were all done for. Needless to say, I'm still shaken up about it.

Long story short, anyone else had an experience like this or one that made you think you ere going to die?

Yeah four people in the car (including the me), and the truck driver we hit head on made it out with just some deep cuts and bruises. The asshole that slung the tire, never ....ing stopped.

Fitting 7 people in a 5 seater car and then T-boning the SHIT out of a little Civic who happened to be street racing and blew through a stop sign. We totalled his car and all that happened to ours was the license plate slit about 20 ft off the car.

Yep...

A couple of years ago, driving back from seeing an old friend with the dog in the Nissan Frontier, hit a patch of black ice just before a bridge on the interstate and spun slamming the side of the truck into a parked state trooper who was on the scene of another accident...

Amazingly, the dog was fine, the trooper was fine, and I had a serious concussion... in a dreamy state for almost a year... a highly creative time actually...

I lost 30 minutes of time about 10 seconds before the impact and have brief flashes of moments here and there, but I "came to" in the back of an SUV next to some stranger woman (who I'm guessing was involved in the other accident)... the dog was next to me doing just fine....

But, the moments that do come back, I remember the truck spinning and me trying to get control and basically saying "Ah, shit" a few times... thought that was it...

Truck was totaled... but the dog and me are still here kicking it...

Take all the time you need processing how frakkin' scary your experience was... it's gonna take some time to get by it... don't hurry... just let your brain figure it all out on it's own terms and don't fret about wanting to talk about it or just mull it over... trauma/shock is a funny thing... staring death in the face not so much...

Thanks! I am still really trying to sort through it all in my head. I'm seeing it all flash around in my head (what I can remember is very little) really vividly. I can't figure out what to do with myself either. I definantly have zero desire to drive for a while now.

Me too!! I was clearing some medium sized cedars with a chain saw. I cut the base of one, and it got tangled in the branches of a larger tree. Instead of falling over in the direction I pushed it, it moved off the stump slightly and then the whole thing crashed down on my head.

My closest near death is a bit of a cliche; kids playing with guns. My parents were out of town, so of course I had to go look at my dad's 357. Now, he had taught me how everything works, and I had shot it before. I also "knew" he never kept it loaded. So I pulled it out, looked at the cylinder and didn't see any rounds. Started doing the stupid kid shit (ie, "quick drawin'"). Then I squeezed the trigger to hear the hammer click. Needless to say there was one bullet in the cylinder that I didn't see. I was in a tiny ass closet, and I almost shit myself when it went off. I couldn't hear correctly for several hours. Had to do a quick drywall plaster (that the parents never found ). I may be a dumbass, but I'm glad I'm not so stupid that I pointed the damn thing at myself.

Taking a long walk with a friend might not be a bad idea... or by your self... hit a park or some woods or a beach or something you are not used to and just go soak that in... your body is probably still clinging to some adrenaline if it was only a few hours ago... and your priorities just got really shifted (some trivial argument or big deal this morning isn't so big now)....

And I STILL don't like driving!

If you have the propensity to write/journal (I don't), that might help too... or play guitar a little bit... or, if you have a band or friends to jam with, do that... but don't lead it... I had another experience as a youngster that shook me up and then played drums for a guitarist that was auditioning... just had to remember the songs... never played so good... completely got out of my own way...

Thank you again for the advice. I did some drawing and attempted to pkay guitar. My left hand is obviously hurt worse than I thought, so I'll find other outlets until that heals. Lustening to some music, as it is for most things in my life, has been a fantastic coping mechanism.

Also, what is up with you guys and trees?

I was trying to find a big enough hill to were I could push my Wal-Mart bicycle to the absolute max. I had a speedometer on my bike, which made it really enticing.

At a campground I found this stretch of paved road which had a very steep downgrade and was extremely long. The road had campsites set up on both sides of it.

I got on top of the hill and pedaled as fast as I could. Before long, my bike began to speed wobble like crazy. I looked at my speedometer and got 53mph. I tried slowing down with the brakes, but the pads just about instantaneously got ground away.

To make things more awesome a truck was backing up into the street a little ways ahead. I just knew their was no way to slow down in time.

I saw a bunch of gravel off to the right, and rode into it to slow down. Thankfully, it worked somewhat, but the bike was still going about 20mph when I was getting damn near impact. I ditch the bike and land in the gravel. The bike smacks the side of the truck.

Remarkably, I just got some good scrapes and my bicycle was fine, but the dude's truck had a big dent and scratches.

I got on my bike and pedaled away as fast as I could so my parents would not have to pay for the damage to his truck. I was going 38mph by the time I got around the next curve.

P.S. I was twelve

One rainy night some jerk pulled out in front of me. I was going strait, he was turning left to go the other way.

I was in my 540i doing 70mph. I jerked the wheel to the left hard, if I hadn't I would have hit the driver side door and probably killed him. Totaled both cars. He left in an ambulance. I, luckily, walked away with a scraped knee.

I'll never forget the second before impact. I was like "Awww you ....ing idiot." And air bag propellent tastes like ass.

Glad you're ok.

Long time no see, Amanda, glad to see you're okay.

My brakes went out about 12 years old and I somehow survived driving through a three way intersection without hitting anyone. I really thought I was gonna die.

My brakes going out has been one of my biggest fears since I was old enough to drive. Glad you made it out unharmed.

When I was 16, the week before I took driver's ed, I was going on vacation to Maine with my family. My dad was driving, and we were in the right lane of a 2-lane highway (65mph speed limit). There was a small ambulance/transport in the left lane, and a car with four 18-20 year-old girls behind it. The ambulance slammed on its brakes at an "authorized vehicles only" turning point, but it didn't have its emergency lights or siren on, so the girls swerved into our lane to avoid hitting the ambulance. Their right side hit the front left corner of our car (a Honda CR-V, which was taller and lighter than their Honda Accord V6), and after spinning around a few times across the road, the girls (still probably going 55 or so) went into a ditch and flipped over about 2 feet from a massive rock. Somehow my dad maintained control of our car the entire time, and we stopped in the shoulder right next to the flipped car.

My dad got out to make sure the girls were ok, and told the rest of us not to leave the car. I was only 16 at the time and had never seen any sort of gore or other crazy shit, so I was pretty spooked about what I was about to see. Seeing as the car was upside down, the roof was caved in and they could only get one of the doors open because the rest were crumpled. Amazingly, all of the girls were fine, other than a bruise or two, and we all left the scene pretty much unharmed, albeit shaken up.

Our car ended up fine, with a tiny crack in the bumper and the front wheels ever so slightly out of alignment, and we drove the rest of the way as soon as the trooper got the story from everyone.

I'll never forget seeing the car after it stopped in the ditch...the back wheel kept spinning for 30 seconds or so after the crash, and for some reason that's really stuck with me; it was just so surreal to see that after the crash happened so fast, and the whole time I was thinking about how close we all were to death.

I haven't had stuff nearly as bad I once chocked on a pear and then coughed it up and my grandpa said " don't die you just got here."
num II: One day me and my mom were on our way to pick up my older brother from kindergarten (you can tell I was young he is 18 months older) and we passed a intersection, we were in a early 80's Monty Carlo (the coolest car my mom ever owned) and the vehicle adjacent to us was a semi. There was a stop sign that the semi didn't pay attention to. and he hit us. he was probably going 15mph. I was on the side that was hit and not a thing was wrong with me, but my mom had blood all over. That was scary as hell, but thank god she only needed some stitches.

Near death experiences?

I've been a passenger in a car with a woman driver multiple times.

In all seriousness, when I was nine I was laughing while eating a peanut and inhaled it into my windpipe. Nearly chocked to death.

And I'm glad you're okay OP

I've had a few! I can't talk in great detail about them, but I have been in three car accidents. Two that were not my fault and one that was. (Really stupid mistake; no drink or drugs involved. But if you wish to know: pm me). And that's just the last two years or so. And the most recent was May 18th, from which I am now in Physiotherapy.

The most recent accident, where I was rear-ended at 60-80km/h because the other driver claimed he wasn't paying attention, is up there with one of the shittier timed incidents. I've been unemployed and living off my savings from working at a Pulp Mill previously. I got into an employment program, which was four weeks of in-class work and then 6 weeks of certification (Security License, First Aid Level 3 are the ones I chose). The four weeks went superb and then a day after we wrapped up our in-class learning, I was hit by a Smart car. Luckily, I was able to do the Security training, but had to drop out of the First Aid Level 3 course because of it being too physical. That and I'm going to be unemployed for longer due to soft-tissue damage and sprained joints in my lower back and neck.

All right, that's the sob story with that. But here are a couple other near-death experiences:
Left lung collapse; age 8
Small stroke; age 19

That's about it.

I was born radioactive. They couldn't find my heart beat when I was still in the womb and my mom went in for an ultra sound.

The first several years of my life were filled with constant doctor visits to have my bone marrow tested. My mom was told when I was a baby that I wouldn't live, because of the radiation from her chemo.

They were obviously wrong, since exactly 21 years later, I'm posting this.
