Dilemma with neighbors...

sub-title: Neighbors threw FECES in OUR trash AFTER it was picked up.

Didn't hear garbage crew pick up trash today. GF brought in can/dumpster thing while I was gone and I opened it to make sure she didn't bring back in a full garbage can (girls are dumb). I saw one bag in there, figured idiot dumpster crew left one in there by mistake.
15 minutes ago I grab the mail, start sifting through it while in garage so I can dump the 97% junk mail directly into trash, when I notice a distinct smell. The smell of FECES. It took me a second, but then I realized it was more the smell of feces covered in litter that I was smelling. The whole garage reeks of it. My immediate reaction: Aw hell nah!
So then it hits me, I'm pretty sure my neighbors have a cat as I've seen a litter box/pet carrier in their doorway. So I decide to look closer at the other bag in there and instantly noticed it was not our trash. The bag ties weren't even tied together. So I sifted through it assuming the person was dumb enough to leave personal information, address, etc. so I could confirm who it was and of course I found exactly what I was looking for and then some. Insurance cards, not even cut up or shredded. Personal MEDICAL documents and test results, again, not even crumpled up. And the real kicker- DIAPERS.

So now I'm trying to wrap my head around this. We've only lived here one month. Never even spoken to or met these people, thus no problems that I'm aware of. So I'm wondering, is it possible this was a mistake? Did logic temporarily flee from their brain in their haste to leave for the day and they accidentally put it in the wrong one? I thought that had to be the case. But now, I don't think that's the case. Their garbage can is sitting outside now for tomorrow so obviously they know it wasn't theirs. (Garbage pick-up here is idiotic; they pick up on the same street on two different days; we literally live right next to each other). There is no way that they couldn't have known it was our trash can. There's just no way. My knee-jerk reaction was to leave the shit right in front of their door. But now I think it would be better to confront them about it. I like to have clarity and closure. I just have a feeling they're going to play dumb and say either 1) I'm sooooo sorry, dumb blonde moment! or 2) I don't know what you're talking about. If the later of the two were to happen, it would lead to some serious problems.

My best guess is that they thought it hadn't been picked up yet and was going to just slip it in yours (but why?, since they knew their's would be getting picked up the next day.), then they got out there with the shit and seen yours had already been picked up, but was then just too lazy to take it back to their garage or house (maybe they were on their way leaving) so they said .... it he won't notice (makes no sense).

I've already poked too many holes in my own theory lol.

Call them out on it. Your trash can, your property. If they feel the need to use your trash can then you can either charge them a fee or tell them to put thier (literal) shit some where else.

I say take brutalwizards plan a few steps further:

If you wanted to really .... with them, just let it go. Live your life as normal. Be a friendly neighbor. If the problem persists thats when you make your move. I would like to preface by saying that this plan is pretty unsanitary, but thats kind of the point. Save thier garbage until you have amassed a pretty decent amount (lets say 5-6 bag), then leave it on thier doorstep with a note saying "I believe this belongs to you". Never mention anything to them in person. If they call you out on it just blow it off like it was no big thing. Avoid verbal confrontation. While you may not get invited to the big neighborhood block party (omg the social event of the summer), I gurantee you will never have a problem out of them again

I use to be petty and scheming like that, but anymore I'd prefer to just deal with it up front and out in the open and make sure it never happens again. I think I will wait for them to get home tomorrow and confront them then, that way they'll be forced to keep it in THEIR garage for an entire week, lol. I'm fairly intimidating, whether or not I intend to be, so I don't think there will be an issue. I just really don't want to hear "So what? What's the big deal?" I know instantly what that'll lead to.

Tell them that you really like the look and smell of their baby's shit, and ask them to segregate the baby shit in it's own special bag so you can use it on your art projects.

That will freak them the .... out. Bet they never do it again.

Fish them. The only downside is if your house is within 100ft or so you'll smell it too. A small price to pay.

An old favorite. Go purchase 2 whole unprepared fish at your local seafood market. Bury said fish into 2 different spots about 1ft deep. Somewhere where it's tough to tell you dug a little hole. Wait a couple days and step outside to enjoy the aroma. I always recommend two separate holes because they think they found it, then 2 days later when it still stinks, they find the second fish. If fish aren't your style, I participated in a Turkey-ing some years back, it was even worse.

Although:
If I was the person needing to dispose of shit ASAP I would have asked you if it was okay to throw it in your trash.

I just went over to confront them and exactly what I thought would happen, did.

We noticed a moving truck out front and then it became very obvious that it was done deliberately. I walked over with trash in hand and caught the guy in his garage. I said "I brought back your trash that you put in our garbage". He immediately started to play dumb and deny everything. He was like "I don't know what you're talking about". I explained again, he was like "I don't follow".

So I explained slower, and louder, "YOUR TRASH was put in OUR EMPTY bin, AFTER the trash was taken away. This is YOUR trash." He started talking about 'the trash didn't even come yet' so I had to explain to him that they pick ours up on Thursday and that's irrelevant. His excuse was "I don't know" and "maybe they got switched". I was like, no this was done deliberately. He's like "Fine, whatever, I'll throw it away...IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL." Poor choice of words.

I immediately told him it WAS a big deal because he left SHIT, both human and animal, in our garbage. I told him I went through it and found their names and address on everything. He kept on and on about how he didn't know anything and didn't know how it got there. The whole time he is smiling and has this shit-eating grin on his face and kept calling me buddy and it was really pissing me off. He was being so defensive and finally started saying "What do you want from me? Do you want my arm? I don't know what to tell you" etc. etc. And I told him I wanted an apology and to not find anymore SHIT in my garbage. I told him I wanted him to own up to it instead of denying everything. It was very obvious at this point. He made one excuse after another. About like 'have you ever seen when it's really windy out and the trash cans are blowing down the street.' I was like 'Yeah, it wasn't windy yesterday. And they didn't pick up your trash- it's still right there, so obviously they weren't 'switched' or blown away and switched.'' He knew instantly what a stupid and illogical excuse that was. Even when I was just standing there waiting for him to shut the hell up he was saying " I don't know what more you want. What else is there." And I said, "Nothing, I'm just waiting for you to stop so I can leave." and he would go on AGAIN. I told him I better not find anything else between now and the time they leave- and I'm sure I won't. He was being such a dick and making it so obvious that he was guilty. He didn't even look through the garbage to confirm it was before throwing it out, which I thought was odd. I would want to know if it was mine if I was being accused of it- that right there is an admission of guilt to me.
I closed with something about him being 'really neighborly' and or nice. I don't remember. I'll have to watch the video after I upload it...yes, I filmed the whole thing in case something went down.

The more I think about it, the more upset I get about it. They moved most of their shit out today, but if they spend the night here tonight with their cars in the driveway I have a wonderful idea. It's brilliant in that it's not vandalism in anyway, it's incredibly annoying, and will piss them off for days.

Essentially I'll be putting olive oil or some type of lubricant underneath their driver-side door-handle. If you've ever had this done to you, you know that even when you wipe it off and think it's clean, it's not. You will get shit on your hands for days. It's hilarious. And if anyone deserves it, my ....bag of a neighbor does.

They moved most of their shit out today, but if they spend the night here tonight with their cars in the driveway I have a wonderful idea. It's brilliant in that it's not vandalism in anyway, it's incredibly annoying, and will piss them off for days. Essentially I'll be putting olive oil or some type of lubricant underneath their driver-side door-handle. If you've ever had this done to you, you know that even when you wipe it off and think it's clean, it's not. You will get shit on your hands for days. It's hilarious. And if anyone deserves it, my ....bag of a neighbor does. If he feels dumb enough to confront me, I'll pull one of these just like he did: Nile and TRENCHLORD like this.
