/\ well, i learned this from my group members in several different classes that were upgrading their credentials. they worked in big companies and their head offices such as RBC, Canadian Tire, Microsoft and others. the things they told about their colleague who is in a similar position as them is sitting there with a humanities, or english, or history degree that has NOTHING to do with the company. at least my degree is half way relevant to business.
just, my network is fairly weak

SAVE!!
It is never too early for it. But as you are still quite young, do kind of a blance.....save, but indulge yourself a bit every now and then. if you just save, save, save, you`ll burn out fast. |

I would say get yourself a high interest savings account and start up an Emergency Fund. In a perfect world you'd have 6 months or more of living expenses saved up in that account. So if your AC dies in the car or your heater goes in the house you're able to pay cash and be done with it rather than have to charge it to a credit card. Then start a retirement fund. Then get the guitar.

strike one, Schulich didn't like how York had 2 business schools, so they made Atkinson into an art/liberal art related school. as such, all business courses were then considered 'liberal arts' related courses so if anyone asks, technically, i cant say i studied business anymore, even though the change occurred AFTER i was enrolled, so York HAS to honor the said courses.strike two, Schulich is a complete dog-eat-dog school. it may be the top of the line, elite business school (second that York has to offer, as Osgoode Law school is also quite elite), but its business ethics are horrible. a common example: prof puts A and B into a group where in the end, its a 'group mark' that they earn. however, half way though, A starts sabotaging B's work so A can complain to prof that A did everything, so give more marks to A, and change the grading scheme to favor A in the group. yes, that is what you're suppose to do in real life situations if you're a business - destroy the competition...but you dont destroy your partners! looking for a dean soltero...PM me my name is Hadi Khan, and I'm not a terrorist. |

Save it for now, I would not use an RRSP persay, as I don't like the penalties and locked in money ,but would instead go the TFSA way and invest through that. With discipline it is the same thing, nearly, without locking you out til you are 65 (or is that 67 now, can't quite remember, either way BOO HISS!).
I would not worry too much about a guitar until you track down your stable career base, so to speak. It is no fun, but then again it is more secure in the long run. I am from the other school of graduation, fair sized debt, but I am putting more than 1/2 my income net into abolishing it this year. I am a bad guy to give advise as I do have a guitar being built, and am also looking into a car. I will still be saving money despite all this and have a fair bit squirrelled away at this moment. Even after I get the car I will be putting decent change away monthly. For me though, abolishing my outstanding debt is more important than saving. Guitar techs are for sissies. Learn some damn music theory, don't complain, and you'll be a better person. -Schecterwhore Show me a truly awesome guitar for under $1000 and I'll show you hateful lies. |
