I attended a young conservatives meeting in my home town once upon a time. I figured it would be a cool place to discuss politics with a few other people who were fiscally conservative (as i identify myself as being fiscally concervative and scoially liberal), however it was basically an hour and a half of anti homosexual, anti-non christian propaganda. What disturbs me most is them equating republicanism with the evangelical right, other republicans who are not batshit crazy have started to complain that the evangelicals are radicalizing the party. I mean, I as a lifelong non-believer (no, I were not able to go to the reason rally, and I will kill anyone who mentions it, I swear to Sagan), I sympathize with some views of the republican party, mostly in regards to free market capitalism, but with the current development, only those who are evangelical asshats are going to vote for the party in the future. Please also note that I as a foreigner would not be able to vote either way

Hitler was a fascist through and through. The socialism part of the National Socialist was a political play to garner sympathy based on the fears of the German people. Slogans that weren't actually believed [Shirer, Rise and Fall of the Third Reich]. If you really want to stretch it he was a socialist in the sense that the Aryan people should be as equals, not in the sense of equality for the poor and working class [Fischer, The Rise of the Nazis].

Valid point, but fascism does not exclude right-left orientation, it's just a name for a political ideology characterized by brutal oppression and nationalism. Both Mao and Stalin can be considered to be fascists as well.

Like Adam of Angels, I was commenting on how a magazine for conservative teens has the whole 'white as ...., blue eyed, blonde haired' teen on the front cover, as if that is the look of their ideal conservative teen. It just sent bad vibes my way, and reminded me greatly of nazi propaganda regarding the aryan race.

(btw, what the acronym nazi stood for had the word socialist in it, (when translated to english of course) so that was a pretty big clue that Hitler was a socialist. :p )

Yeah, better not derail further. I'll just say that since the collective of the third reich was still very important during the war and that banks etc were still under ownership of the state, I'd say the third reich was pretty socialist even during the war. What Hitler's motivations were I cannot say, for obvious reasons.
We instead have to look at what he did, and in regards to economy and society (I defined this so no-one would get butthurt over them thinking I imply that socialism means use of eugenics) he was a socialist (my interpretation of course).
