Me and my Dad have been to this Starbucks so much that we know the workers and they're all pretty level-headed from what I can see.
It's really cool because like me and my Dad would bring like our 7 strings with our Micro Cubes and they don't mind letting us play and what not.
So they're pretty cool overall but working with them will be a totally different situation.

Yeah, it seems like it should be fun overall being a social outlet and what not as well.

Congrats man, you will have to deal with the odd crap customer but you will be surprised how genuine a lot of customers can be with a bit of good service.

Enjoy it man!

Edit: to explain a bit more, I worked in retail and found that service is best applied depending on customer being served, some will just want you to provide a quick professional service whereas others do like a bit of a chat while they are being served. You will be able to gauge pretty quickly which customers are which after working for a wee while, and other than the customer receiving great service you will find the day is much more stress free once your relaxed around all different types of people.

Please don't be an asshole when I ask for a Small Medium or a Large, instead of Tall Grande or Vente.

Thats all I have to say

I would like to work at a Starbucks but if I did I would have to bring home a ton of Frap's to my mom cause she goes there everyday...

My advice for you is...

Buy a good pair of shoes, i'm not sure how much you'll be working though but trust me it will make a big difference.

Since you are new, try to come in whenever they ask you too for a while, don't call in sick the first two weeks of work unless you are actually very sick.

There will be days where you want to kill EVERYBODY! I mean EVERYBODY!, just keep your cool and remember a lot of the people who are asshole's to you are just venting anger that needs to be directed at someone else.

Save a little money as well for when you don't get as many hours, i'm not sure if starbucks has a time of the year where they are really slow.

Buy shoes that are like feet pillows. You will stand all ....ing day. I don't work, nor have I ever worked at a Starbucks but my only job experience is in the restaurant industry (which I currently still work in). The only people that sit down at any time in a restaurant are the management in their office, bussers (briefly and maybe), and the customers themselves. Also, while I don't 100% hate the actual job itself, the people are certified idiots. Starbucks will be a more chill environment and there aren't huge staffs on at the same time so I imagine it will be pretty cool. I guess my only advice is, if you like this, stay there until you get into whatever you want after college or whatever. And the restaurant industry blows donkey dick.

AND! Congrats, I remember my first job! It will be sweet!

caskettheclown - Do you have any suggestions for shoes?

I don't know why people make a big deal about those size words.

Thanks Blind Theory! I'll keep that in mind.

Don't drink the coffee, go to a better shop and drinks theirs instead (I just don't get what is so great about starbucks coffee, seriously).

Congratz on the job though, go in and bust ass. That has always worked well for me, I have references around the block claiming I am the best worker they've ever seen, because I was. Get a great reference everywhere you work, that is the ultimate goal really.

For a first job, you got a good one.

I have a friend that works for Starbucks, and she says they are a great employer. I've had a lot of interaction with sbux as a contractor, and they are great to work with. It's actually a company that you could pursue a career with.

My advice for enjoying your job is to be friendly and get along with your coworkers, because you're gonna spend alot of time with them. Be respectful to your bosses, but don't be an ass-kisser. And also very important; take pride in your work, no matter what you are doing.

My first job was literally working at McDonalds, but somehow I remember it fondly for the most part, and it's been long enough that the shitty parts are funny stories now.

Congrats.

To add to what lefty said, you should obviously be as polite as possible, say "have a (really) nice day", chatting a little too when there's very little customers too. Just be convincing you want nothing but good things to the customers.
People remembers where the service is good and where it is bad, and even a single good employee can change the general atmosphere and customers behaviour!

I worked at a super market chain, and people were very likely to recognize me with a smile and a chat, and leave the store with a smile. It's not that odd again; smiles are contageous.
