Watching the video again..and thinking better of it..I feel sorry for those kids. Lots of those kids go on that little journey and they're a bit too young to know how most of the world works..on top of that they believe they have to teach people about their religion. I admire their bravery, especially when you come across guys like that black dude who are just looking for a dick measuring contest between gods. Religion is a hostile topic many times and these kids have to go to complete strangers and talk about it.

My mother, a Jehovah's Witness, had a couple mormons at her door one time. It was during the summer, one of the hottest days of the year, and those poor kids were damn near dying. She invited them in to enjoy the air conditioning, gave them huge glasses of ice water, let them use the bathroom and whatnot, and talked to them about their religion. Whereas she did let them know right off the bat that she was a Jehovah's Witness and wasn't exactly looking to change long distance carriers, she listened to what they had to say, talked to them and even took a book of Mormon. The kids were polite, thanked her for listening and her hospitality and went on their way.

Those kids aren't "freaks" or "fanatics"..just doing what their god instructs them to do..as is the point of religion. I respect them actually following their own rules as opposed to many who claim to be of various religions yet don't bother with it's restrictions/guidelines. I'm all for taking religious zealots down a few notches, but that's not the case here. In this instance a real religious zealot overtalks a couple of kids out of their element.

I guess I'm technically still Mormon, if your faith depends on who dunks you under water (the blessed holy city water, piped in just like it is in any house - it's even chlorinated), and how recently it was. When I was born I was baptized Christian without my consent, and then when I was 8 or 9 I was baptized Mormon, arguably without my consent as well because when a bunch of old people tell you to do something and you're 8 or 9, you ....ing do it. A couple of years later my family stopped going to the church. I'm really glad about that because right about now I'd be on my mission and not in university.

I've talked with lots of missionaries when I was younger. A lot of them were nearly illiterate. Nicest guys you'll ever meet, but their educations are being put on hold. I'm just glad I'm not in that boat anymore.

Which is another thing. They get conditioned to do this and their lives and educations are put on hold..I certainly wouldn't curse them out or troll them just for doing what they've been told to do..now of course if they were rude or whatever that's one thing, but a couple kids trying to have an honest discussion on their religion isn't grounds for war

Totally agree with what ya said, Drak. Those kids have it pretty shitty. Having to peddle nonsense. Beint robbed of their education and early adult years. Being rushed into marriage. So much pressure from your parents and your church to be a good missionary. Sounds like an awesome time to me. No wonder Mormons are so smiley; you gotta fake it 'till ya make it.

It's healthy to have your faith challenged, especially by those of other faiths. It's one thing for an atheist to tell someone they're wrong, but to be challenged by someone who is also religious I think it vital in showing people have different interpretations of religions.
