I never said they weren't. I simply said that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Would you want to portray yourself in a negative light in one social situation, and a positive one in another? If you offend someone with your actions in the former situation, it ccould affect the latter.

Actually, they are not different social situations at all; employers are more frequently polling that they conduct web searches of all potential applicants and reviewing those applicants' conduct on social networking sites to ultimately make their determinations as to who gets hired and who gets relegated to the dustbin of life.

that is a neat, i never been in a position of job hiring power, so i have never considered how employers with that much free time do for there hiring process.

Most of my graduating class demonstrates grammar skills ranging from "just decent and understandable" to "so bad that I honestly can't comprehend it at all." We studied from the same books for 12 years. How did they forget how to use proper grammar while I didn't? If I wanted to, I could make them believe that I have a degree in English.

No attempts at spelling and grammar for semi-public eyes just shows laziness, I have no problem with text shorthand in an message from a friend, but I have to deal with people that try to use it in academic papers and they don't understand what is wrong with it when I point it out.

Slightly related, I get annoyed when people insist on using alternating caps and e-glitter around their names ( «¤¦۞ mY nAmE ۞¦¤» ), personally I never saw how that stuff could be cool for anyone other than 13 year old girls.

You sort of the morons off of the top because you don't have enough free time to let themselves disappoint you in person. If you can't take the time to fill an application out properly, how much effort is likely to be put into the job? That is pretty much a standard of anyone who has to do hiring. And I've helped with hiring processes that require checking into a person's facebook and forum posts.

The issue of the elongation of words is a pet peeve of mine, but the overall issue of the downfall of proper grammar is more than that.

As an employer, your desire is to find the best applicant to hire. It takes 3 minutes to conduct a web search of an applicant, find the person on Facebook (provided they use their real identification) and read their latest wall postings. It takes longer to make a phone call to check references. When I was in a position where I interviewed candidates, I would run internet searches while I was contacting their references.

That tells me they are at least intelligent enough to care what people think of them, so that's actually a good point in their favor (as far as from an Employer's standpoint).

Why don't you want to use good grammar? I don't try to, it just comes naturally to me, which I like to think is a result of a decent education. I still make bad mistakes, like using the wrong its, but for the most part, using the more general rules of grammar is second-nature. Is it not that way for you?

In real life, I speak pretty fluently. I did very well on the forensics team in school which was very subjective on who they chose, and I even got the nickname "the kraken" cause how much i would "murder" someone in a debate.

I would say that my lack of proper grammar on the internet stems from 100% laziness

your guys subjective love for perfect grammar wont change that.

as much as i respect all your opinions, my VERY improper grammar and quirky paragraph-esque style typing is just a habit, that only gets brought up in threads like this.

i am sorry if your subjective eyes do not like it.
