I need a charity to contribute to.

I used to do the whole tithe thing for church when I was younger, you know 10% of everything you make. I want to start doing that again but not to a church for my own reasons which have nothing to do with religion. I kind of hate people I meet on a daily basis but I would like to actually help people in general. So I'd like to give to a charity that actually helps people where the money gets to people that genuinely need help and that will actually benefit from my contribution. I'd like to keep it to people only, nothing against animals I just don't wanna go that route. So if anyone has good ideas of great charities I'd be interested in knowing them. Actually as I'm writing this St. Jude's pops into my head but I don't know that everything I contribute to them will actually help the kids. Thanks!

Here's one that's been put on mine and my wife's heart:

The Smile Train: The World's Leading Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Charity

I see it as a pretty lasting way to give. A direct impact as well.

BTW, it seems you may have been burned by "the church" establishment. I'm really sorry if that's the case.

This entire facility tried to donate to St. Jude's last year for Christmas and they were incredibly rude to deal with. They acted like we weren't good enough because we aren't some big name. It was complete bullshit. We dropped them half way through and found a local charity to deal with for homeless kids.
