Planning a road trip for next summer with a friend. Going west, as far as we can, then coming back... Meeting people, sleeping in fields, exploring, philosophizing, learning, etc... Two dudes, one car, a few notepads, two military cots, and some clothes. Travelling the U.S as extensively as we can over the course of... say, a month. How much do you think we would need? Lets say the cars gas mileage is 20 mpg for the sake of brevity.

Certainly. I plan on taking an acoustic. The whole idea is to meet people and spend some time learning about ourselves. Making music with random people, hearing random stories.... Having a good time before we have to grow up.

Knowing people over the US won't hurt. It'd be cool to meet the screennames you've known for a while.

This sounds scary as shit tbh. Driving into some random town adn then trying to find a place to sleep is not an easy task. I would this out a bit more.

watch a show called 'departures'. those guys traveled the world, and they did it for fairly cheap by using their networks. kinda like
'hey, were're gonna be visiting your town soon, you mind if we crash at your place, or you show us around' and yeah...

It might sounds scary but it is do-able. If I were you I'd try and sort out some sort of van, where you can sleep more comfortably if you need to.

This. Before you know it you're driving down the road in the middle of nowhere because one of you decided to take a short cut and not tell the others, and then you get lost. Everyone is angry because of this, someone goes off in a strop and gets killed and you all go off to find him, instead stumbling upon his ravaged corpse. Pretty soon you're on the run from what appears to be retarded redneck zombie people of the forest. You stumble upon a house and decide to enter for safety, not once thinking this may be house owned by said retarded redneck zombie people of the forest. You're both caught after a failed escape and either eaten or tortured. There will probably be another group of people travelling down the round after, leaving it open for a sequel.
