I've never heard a bad thing about Japanese seafood, noodles or rice dishes.
The only time I've had Japanese curry, I remember it being a lot milder and tastier than an Indian curry, but the majority of Indian curries in England are very different to a real Indian. Vindaloo in particular is very hot in the UK, but in India it's more of a vinegar hotness and nowhere near as spicy. I'm also pretty sure many curries were actually invented in England, I can't remember the name off-hand, but there's one with a sort of creamy tomato sauce that was originally made by dumping a can of cream of tomato soup into an existing curry.

Japanese culture fascinates me, mainly the history, although everytime I half-heartedly try to find out more, it always seems to involve manga/anime/etc, which is a kind of pet hate for me.

Yeah, Japanese food is my favorite food in the world. For just noodles alone, I have yakisoba, ramen, Japanese spaghetti, and bibin-men in my apartment now. I have no complaints about eating here. Occasionally, I really want American food, though (especially my mom's cooking and my best friend's mom's cooking) and Mexican food.

One of the most common kinds of Japanese curries has apples and honey mixed in, which is one of the reasons why it's so mild. Whenever I go to a curry restaurant, I always get "chicken katsu curry" which is a bed of rice with a fried chicken cutlet on top, and then Japanese pork curry all over that. Sometimes I get "tonkatsu curry" which is the same as above except that it's pork instead of chicken.

I work in Shinjuku, which is where the Tokyo Metropolitan Building is and is also one of the top 3 most crowded places in the world (most major Japanese company's head offices are here). Because of that, I have a HUGE selection of places to eat for lunch. And I very vastly seperate the "curry restaurants" from the "Indian curry restaurants." One big difference is that the Indian curry restaurants have saffron rice and nan (neither of which are at Japanese curry restaurants), as well as spicier curries (Japanese curry is very mild) in yellow, green, or blue (Japanese curry places are only in red), oftentimes with different kinds of vegetables, spices, or meats/seafood (Japanese curry is usually carrots, potatoes, and beef, chicken, or pork with some other ingredients like honey, apples, etc. added in). So, last Friday, I said to my coworker "Let's go to eat some curry... Indian curry, I mean." There really is a very strong difference. I love them both. I'm also a huge fan of Thai curry, but I haven't had that lately.

You'll get that on the web. It always used to annoy me when I used to look for lyrics for a Japanese band a long time ago and I'd find the lyrics on some Japanimation freak's page. I have this one Singaporean friend who is kind of a Japanimation fan and she believes all the ridiculous things most "anime losers" believe about Japan. I beat her over the head with it sometimes, but she won't change her mind. She seems to think she's right no matter what, even though she doesn't speak Japanese, has never been to Japan, doesn't know any Japanese, and has never studied Japanese history/culture/language/etc.

Thai curry is by far my favourite (although I do like korma more than I should), seems more aromatic and flavoursome than other varieties. The area I live in (just south of Liverpool) seems to have quite a few Thai restaurants, most of them are exceptional, and nicely priced, one place in particular does a dish called "Tiger Cry" which is beef cooked in Thai whiskey, while I'm not a fan of whiskey in general, it makes brilliant eating. There's a distinct lack of sushi places, the only two that are easy to get to are pretty expensive.

I really should just go to the library and take out a book, instead of trying to find information on the net.

^Sushi places in the US are really expensive too. I can eat at a "kaitenzushi" restaurant here until I'm full for under US $10.

The reason I love Thai curry is because it's spicier than Indian curry and I love spicy food.

You could do that about the book, but you might find it boring depending on the book and stuff. I majored in "Japanese Studies" in college because I found it fascinating, but other people thought it was incredibly boring. I think a lot of the "anime" people have this weird "fantasy world" image of Japan that is completely seperated from reality. Of course, I'm the guy who makes the stuff those guys are using since I'm a translator for an RPG video game company in Tokyo... :P I like a lot of the same stuff they do (video games and animation, etc.).

I can just about get 4 california rolls for $10, then again that's also due to the strong pound.

Can't hurt for me to try, it's free and I have nothing better to do for the next week, and I'm a sucker for looking at samurai armour and swords, one step away from being a D+D geek.
I'll avoid making a "all your base are belong to us" joke, honestly I will.....

for great justice.

In our house it was fried eggs with fried liverwurst on white bread. This is how I learned to keep my slim physique!

The actual sandwich Lister orders (for Rimmer post Death Day celebrations) is a triple fried egg sandwich with chilli sauce and chutney.
