Newbie here, looking for a 7 that's a little different

hello all...

let me introduce myself--i'm a jazz player, which i know is different from a lot of you all here, but i'm looking to join the ranks of the seven string world. but i need something a little different...

i'm looking for an entry level 7 string that is a little less on the "metal" side of the street--it's not just the looks of the guitar--i'm looking for pickups that aren't voiced so hot and a neck that isn't of the flat/thin category (like the ibanezes.) it need not look like a jazz guitar (i'm a telecaster payer for the most part, so i'm just looking for something that'll feel a bit more familiar)

a lot of jazz cats do the sevenstring thing, but jazz 7's tend to be ridiculously expensive...i'm just looking to experiment a little, so i'm looking in the 3-4 hundred dollar range, used is fine...here's a link to some recordings i've done so you can get anidea of where i want to go with this...having a low A would really pump up the bottom end in my arrangements...jeff matz: audio files

so, any ideas for a wannabe seven stringer?

Maybe a used Schecter Blackjack? Mahogany body, maple set neck, rosewood fretboard and Duncan JB/59 pickups. The stock pickups might be a tad hot for you, but they give a great Les Paul-type tone. The necks are thicker than Ibanez's, but still very comfortable, and the build quality is excellent for the price range. I still regret selling mine.

I'm a jazzer also and just bought an archtop 7 from Matt Raines. He has some close-out stuff on ebay. Type his name into the search box. He's asking $800. for the full dressed versions, but has stripped down models, but you can make him an offer.
Imbedded video of his guitar sounds good for a sub 1K box. I gig a lot and am tired of being held hostage by bass players!
It arrives this Friday and I will attempt to gig with it Friday noght.
