Hello Everyone
Hello there. My name is Zach. I am 22 and have been playing guitar for nearly 10 years. I listen to bands like Nevermore, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Extol, Becoming the Archetype, Sun Caged, Quo Vadis, Death, The Alarum, and many others. Loomis, the other dude from nevermore who's name I can not remember, Petrucci, Marcel Coenen (sp?) and basically anyone who plays a 7 string and can write good rythm stuff are fine by me. Shredders are cool, and I know the dudes I mentioned can shred, but that gets old to me. I would rather listen to creative technical rythm stuff.
I currently do not own a 7 string, but eventually I will be a man and get one. Right now, I am playing an ESP George Lynch Baritone through a POD XT Live that is powered by a Crate powerblock into a custom made 2X12 cab with sheffield speakers in it. It is not the most glorifying setup in the world, but the tone is crushing and it works for me. I have been playing USA Jacksons for most of the years, however I have had to sell all of mine. I would eventually like to have Jackson make me a 7 string, however I doubt that will ever happen. I am thinking I will be able to pickup a 7 string around June.... (Either I will be able to convince my fiance to buy me one for our wedding as a present, or I will buy myself one as a wedding present.) At this point, I would be looking for something with no floyd, 2 hums, a 26-27 inch scale, decent stock pickups and finish, and a neck profile that is not too thin but not super thick. I am thinking a schecter c-7 hellraiser would fit that description, plus I do not have to sell my sperm/blood to pay for it. It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do as far as this forum is concerned. Watching videos of 7 strings doing what they do best helps me learn a great deal, as well as kills time at work when it is boring. If anyone can point me in the direction of some cool videos or gear talk worthing looking into, I would appreciate it. I look forward to learning whatever I can from this forum. Thanks and God Bless, Zach |

Welcome! And don't knock your rig, it's portable, powerful, and it packs a punch. My favorite cab ever was a 212 Peavey with Sheffields in it. It just sounded crisper and more defined than their 412s. As for the POD, I play through the XT Live into an Atomic 112, and I've been playing over 20 years. After lugging stacks around from gig to gig, I now say the smaller the better as long as it sounds right.
Get the Schecter! A lot of us have been drooling over those for a long time. No need to buy extra EMG pickups, they're already mounted. Again, welcome, and enjoy the forums! Oh, and congrats on the future wedding! "Dude, you need to find the right fucking meds to be on, because you are the most unstable person I know." |

thanks everyone... I am online a lot during the winter (the hours are slow at work), so I will probably be spending a great deal of time here.I checked out the vid of loomis playing Psalms, and it was pretty cool. Are there any non-teach you how to play super harmonic poly fusion hybrid 7 string vids around here? Also, I was reading the classifieds, and I had a quick question. I have no intention on selling any gear anytime soon, but I am wondering what is a good post limit to reach before you start to post ads? I have sold many pieces of gear over at the Jackson guitars forum, and have close to 700 posts there. The rules are not necessarily strict... anyone who is not an idiot should be able to follow them. I just wanted to cover my ground here. Hopefully I will be able to post some clips of tunes my potential band and I are going to work on soon. . What are some good posts around here to read about 7 strings, gear and life in general? I am now seriously thinking about the shecter c-7 hellraiser and c-7 blackjack. They seem to be very similar. I prefer duncan jb/59 to the emg pair, and the hellraiser costs a little more... however the hellraiser looks so much more nice (I really do not like the binding on the headstock of the blackjack) and if I am going to spend money a guitar I might as well get the most out of it right? I have heard the hellraiser is much more brutal sounding than the blackjack.. any info? oh, and I was not knocking my rig.. well sorta maybe I was. I prefer the small setup that is more portable and sounds just as good.. actually I think it sounds more nice. I have gone through, what seems to me anyways, a large amount of gear over the years. guitar-I started with an import jackson kelly w/emg's, then went to an esp flying v, then went to a USA jackson rr for many years, then bought a USA Soloist to match the rr, then sold them both to pay bills and bought an import POS kelly, and now to a pretty nice esp baritone guitar. The finish is uglier than sin, but it plays and sounds nice. amp- Started with a randall rg150 stack, then went to a warhead stack, then went to a line6 flextone II hd stack that was the nicest sounding of the three, and now to my current rig. I am thinking I have found my last combination unless I go with the rack version of the POD, a nice rack poweramp, and other rack components. I like nice racks The rig is amazing, as you can dial in virtually any tone you need with the pod, power it with a decent ss power amp that will not color the tone and is incredibly cheap, and run it to a small 2x12 cab that is lightweight and sounds good. The whole rig cost me about 800 dollars, and works very well for me. Some dudes need walls of marshall or mesa heads/cabs but not me..At the risk of sorta hijacking my own thread, I have been looking into EKG guitars a lot lately... I think that is what they are called anyways Anyhow, I am wondering if it would be more cheap and practical to have them build me a 7 string instead of going with a schecter hellraiser. I am going to be spending about 800-850 anyways, and I really do not mind natural finishes... actually I would prefer one. Maybe something with a natural wood finish, black hardware, a basic non floyd bridge, a basic neck with an ebony or rosewood fretboard and no inlays, and possibly black binding around the whole guitar.... basically something to the 8 string guitar on their website (I think that belongs to someone here? ) except 7 strings and maybe black binding around the body.... |
