![]() | Another new 7 stringer! Hi everybody, I got my first 7 yesterday, an Ibanez Gio GRX720, I bought from eBay for £62! It was in a real state of neglect, but mainly from having been left in a teenagers bedroom and never being played. So I spent all evening with wire wool, cleaners, oil, polish, toothbrush, allen keys and screwdrivers and gave the poor thing a total clean service and full set up. It now looks and plays like new Then I plugged it in a cranked it up I've been playing 6 string for 20 years and consider myself to be in the 'shred' fraternity, having played in mainly highly technical metal type bands. My main player influences are Vai, Malmsteen, Petrucci, Rhodes, Schenker, Sykes, Murray/ Smith, and a whole host of metal players old and new. I bought Outworld last week - OUCH! It sounds like it's about time I got into Nevermore too. But Petrucci really floats my boat - can't wait for the new DT album, hope it's better than Octavarium. It's funny how it's taken me so long to get a 7. In a previous band I set up my 6 string guitars BEADGB (0.52-0.011), so I've already gone most of the way. Even though I only played my 7 for an hour last night it came really easily, with visualising the 3 note per string scales from the high B and E string to the low B and E strings then filling in the gaps making things really easy. Power chords are simple to transpose so I'll have to work on extended arpeggios and extended jazz chord voicings the most. I play lead guitar in Snakebite, the Whitesnake tribute band (see UK Classic Rock Magazine out on May 30th for a feature) so I may even get the 7 out to some gigs, especially for the Vai tunes, Wings of a Storm, Judgement Day and Sailing Ships. From what I can gather, Vai used his Universe guitars exclusively for all his Whitesnake work - so I'm in a band where I can use the 7 already, cool. Anyway, this forum has already given me loads of cool advice and inspiration -I feel like I'm a superior being now I've got a 7. The GRX is great for almost no money at all. When I get really comfortable with it there will be no excuse to getting a UV777PBK Pete Snakebite - Europes Premier Whitesnake Tribute Band - Home |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Gio's not the best 7 string by far, but it's a good introduction. We're arranging a big meet up for 07/07/07, the decision on where to hold the UK meet is being made here: http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/7-7...-location.html |

![]() | Hi Thanks everyone...I feel welcome already. The Gio cost £62 - it's the best guitar I've ever played for that kind of money by a mile. And it will give the me the confidence to build up my 7 string playing so I can unleash serious gas in a few months. I've put a note of caution on the 07/07/07 thread Veg |
