![]() | UK experimenter tuned in fifths hello, it's good to be here. my name is Matthew, i live in the UK. i am a creative person especially interested in music, arts and design i have already posted 3 times before introducing myself my apologies ![]() my first instrument was a analogue/digital synthesiser in 1993. in 1994 i moved onto 5 string bass and in 1996 started my experimentation with fifths tunings, inspired by Robert Fripp and driven by my desire for more pitch range, especially upwards in 2002 i briefly switched to 7 string guitar tuned in fourths, an ibanez RG7321 hardtail. the number of strings felt right but after a while i missed the low notes, long scale, tone and sheer size of a bass guitar in 2003 i bought the instrument my heart had desired for years, a 6 string bass, an Ibanez BTB406. in 2005 after much back-and-forth between fourths and fifths tunings i commited to fifths tuning and therefore finally realised the underlying dream i had been pursuing all this time: a guitar with the pitch range similar to a keyboard. i have been playing using an ebow and 2 handed tapping techniques a lot recently still i desire more range, i am waiting for an affordable 7 string bass i can tune in fifths ![]() |

How go things with the ebow? There are already a few devotees here (including me! )... 'If one octave isn't interesting then who the hell cares about the others?!'
