Cheers dude. How are you finding the 5150? I've never been able to get good results out of them so far, but I have heard that you can really get them to sound great by putting lower gain pre-amp tubes in and controlling the high end.

Just like this in fact.
Were you in the back corner near the mixing desk? That's where I was standing with the missus, until they came on and then I was over near Lisa at the front.

What did you think of them?

Yes, that was me. I moved nearer the front when they came on, inline with the lead guitarist. I loved the band, but I didn't really like the vocal style. The lead guitarist just played the right notes at the right point. That JSX sounded really nice.

the 5150 needs some TLC to get the best out of it. I did a total retube with JJ's and I put 2 low gain pre amp tubes in V3,and V4. well that basically eliminated all the hiss you get on the lead channel and it makes the rhythm channel actually sound prety good clean. the JJ's also warm it up a lot.
I also use a BBE sonic Stomp and I run it thru a hotplate. These amps have a sweet spot at around 4-5 post gain, but that is so freaking loud it's a joke, but with the hotplate I can cut it back to -8db, or -12 db and it sounds great, I kick on the sonic stomp when I cut it back and it brings the sound "out front".
Plus I run it thru the Marshall Cab with Greenbacks, I think it souds much smoother thru them.

At MF666:
I enjoyed them a lot more than I thought I would. Obviously Adrian was always gonna be the lynchpin of it, but I thought that Lisa did an excellent job and the lead guitarist was very well suited to what they were doing, he kinda did what needed to be done. Definitely for me, the three of them carried it. The JSX was ok, I didn't really notice it, so that probably means it did a good job.

At Kmanick:
I'd heard that doing that makes a huge difference, unfortunately the only 5150's that i've ever played with were owned by lazy guitarists who seldom change their strings, let alone change valves and learn about their gear. I did find that with a totally stock model, if you kill all the Treble and use the Presence instead it goes a long way to losing the fizz that is always in them.

glad to see another convert to BBE. I've sworn by those for years, owned a 322 until i connected up my 2:90 backwards and fried the chips Had a 362 with sub controls, which I swapped with a bass player mate for a 362 with noise suppression. Are you running it on the effects loop? BBE's do their maximum when you can get them between the Pre & Power amp.

Basically the same oppinion as me then.

So, you're a BBE lover eh? Don't suppose you know anyone who'd want a 362?

Not off of the top of my head but I'll ask around.
I am running it in the loop (just the sonic stomp pedal)
I actually don't like the BBE with alot of amps.
Some people over on the Jackson board were adamant about how the BBE
and the 5150's were a match made in heaven so I thought I'd give it a try.
I think I agree with them but at higher volumes I turn it off, I think at that
point they detract from the 5150's tone, but thru a hotplate they work wonders it brings the amp alive. someone described it as "it sounds like someone took a blanket off of the front of your cab".
I agree I think it sounds great.
